Big Kev puts Malta on the map

ANSW Website
By David Tarbotton and Ron Bendall
Monday 6th June 2011

Representing Malta, Mingara athlete ``Big Kev’’ Moore won the 400m final at the Games of the Small European States in Liechtenstein on Friday.

Moore won in the smart time of 47.68s from Monaco’s Brice Etse and Kyriakos Antoniou of Cyprus.

Later Moore helped Malta to a silver medal in the 4x400m relay behind Cyprus.

Kembla Joggers’ Ryan Gregson came down from the hills behind San Diego where he has been doing altitude training to win the one mile at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene Oregan on Saturday.

Gregson won in 3:53.86s, just outside his PB of 3:52.24 set in London last year.

In his second race since succumbing to a stress fracture which kept him out of last year’s Commonwealth Games, Gregson was too good for US runners David Torrence and Ben Blankership.

Lachlan Renshaw (Sydney Uni) was close to running that elusive World Championships A Qualifying time of 1:45.40 when he finished sixth in the 800m at the same meet behind Sudan’s Abubaker Kaki.

Renshaw ran 1m.46.11, his fifth fastest ever time to easily meet the B Qualifying standard of 1:46.30.

Sutherland’s Eloise Wellings celebrated her recent addition to the Australian team to contest the World Championships with a season’s best in the 5000m at the Prefontaine Classic.

Wellings finished 13th in 15:54.64 while a trio of Kenyans filled the top three placings.

Westfields’ Fabrice Lapierre finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 7.94m (wind +3m) behind Britain’s Greg Rutherford (8.32m), South Africa’s Godfey Mokoena (8.31m) and Germany’s Sebastian Bayer (8.03m).

Chasing a spot in Australia’s 4x400m relay team for the World Championships, Asics Wests’ Joel Milburn finished third in the 400m at the Gold Coast on the weekend.

In his first race since missing most of the summer with injury, Milburn ran 47.44s to finish behind West Australian Chris Troode (46.04) and Queensland’s Nicholas Boylett (46.87).

If Nick Boylett can break into the 46.3's he might be looking at a trip to Daegu...depends on how a few of the others are travelling.
