Doncaster Athletic Club celebrates 40 years

by Stuart McLay
Manningham Leader
15 May 11

The Doncaster Athletic Club (DAC) will celebrate its 40th Anniversary with a dinner to be held at The Manningham Function Centre on Saturday 4th June.

The Mayor Geoff Gough and his wife Sonia will be in attendance to formally acknowledge the Club which has become an icon in the Manningham area and one of the premier clubs in Australian athletics.

The night will feature a panel of DAC legends past and present who will talk of their experiences over the 40 years and memorabilia, photos and videos will be on display.

The Doncaster Women’s Amateur Athletics Club and the Doncaster Amateur Athletics Club were founded at a meeting at the well known Athenaeum Hall on Doncaster Road in 1971 with the two Clubs becoming one entity in 1993.

The Club has produced numerous Olympic, Commonwealth and International representatives and medallists, but still prides itself on the opportunities it provides for people of all abilities to participate in the sport of athletics.

Club President Adrian Patti says the night is all about the DAC family and the part the Club has played in the local community over its 40 years.

“I can’t wait for us to be able to celebrate our wonderful milestone with the people who’ve made this fantastic club what it is today. We have an enormous family of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents and friends.”

“The dinner will be attended by many of our Life Members and those who’ve been around the place for a long time, as well as lots of our younger members who will be a big part of DAC in the next stage of our history.”

Tickets are $85.00 per head for adults, $75.00 for Under 18s or $800.00 for a table of 10 and are available from Adrian Patti on 0413 741 869. For more information visit
