Tyson Gay and Jeremy Wariner to run 4x400m at 2011 Texas Relays
March 23, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas - Olympians and USA Track and Field Stars Tyson Gay and Jeremy Wariner will compete at the 2011 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays as part of a 4x400m relay team on Saturday, April 9. Joining them on the mile-relay will be Reggie Witherspoon and Lionel Larry.

The pair are two of the top track and field athletes in the world and easily the most recognizable names in the sport in the United States. During the 2010 season, Gay, a three-time World Champion and American record holder in the 100m, handed Jamaica's Usain Bolt his first loss in the 100m in two years, while setting the 200m straight record (19.41) and equaling the world leading 100m time (9.78). He also won the inaugural IAAF Diamond League Championship in the event.

Wariner has three Olympic Gold Medals already on his resume after winning the 400m and 4x400m in 2004 and running a leg on the 2008 4x400m relay. The three-time world outdoor champion posted the world's fastest 400m time in 2010 (44.13) en route to winning the inaugural IAAF Diamond League 400m Championship.

The pair are no stranger to the Texas Relays as Wariner was the 4x400m relay that set the then-meet record in 2004 (3:00.04). Gay ran a leg of USA Red's 4x100m relay that won the invitational event in 2006 and also competed in 2002 for Barton County where he won the 100m in 10.35.

The 84th running of the Relays will be held Wednesday-Saturday, April 6-9 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
