FROM THE VAL

The Victorian Athletic League board has organised a new event which will be held two weeks before the Stawell Gift. This event will be a great opportunity for athletes to have a final hit out before the grand final of pro-running. Events will be run over distances that are very different to what athletes run throughout the season and we also have included a 440 yard invitational event.

TABCORP has jumped on board and have generously sponsored the 90m Open event but we are still seeking minor sponsors for other events. If you are interested in sponsoring an event please contact me through the VAL office.

Details of the new event are as follows.

When Sunday, 10th April 2011
Where Shepley Oval. Pultney St, Dandenong.
Melways Ref 90 F9
Approx Start Time 12:00pm

EVENTS

90m Open; P/money: $2000 Entry Fee: $20

90m Womens/Vets; $600 Fee: $12

300m Open; $600 Fee: $12

350m Womens/Vets; $600 Fee: $12

600m Open; $600 Fee: $12

1500m Open; $600 Fee: $12

440yd Invitational; $440

440 Yards Invitational.
Athletes must apply for entry through the VAL - (max limit 20m) backmarker to run off scratch.


350m for women/vets? Why have a 300m and a 350m - two sets of marks to put out means more work for the organisers.

440 yards invitational is a great idea, although I reckon a 20m limit might be too high. I'd like to see a 10 or 12 yard limit. AND if the race is 440 yards, I think the marks should be in yards.

From the VAL Regulations

Requirements for conducting events

2.14 Unless otherwise approved by the VAL Board, a Club conducting a meeting under the VAL
Rules & Regulations may conduct events over the following distances only:
a) 70 metres;
b) 90 metres;
c) 100 metres;
d) 120 metres;
e) 200 metres;
f) 300 metres;
g) 400 metres;
h) 550 metres;
i) 800 metres;
j) 1000 metres;
k) 1500 metres;
l) 1600 metres;
m) 2000 metres;
n) 3000 metres;
o) 3200 metres; and
p) 4x200 metres relay.

I'm assuming the 350m event at Dandenong has been approved by the VAL board.

And the 600m and the 440 yards...
Looks like a good initiative to not run distances that will be run at Stawell. The vets have a highly sought after 300 event at Stawell so the 350m is a great idea in that restricted category.

remember though....nothing is ever non penalty. Wink

The event is being put on by the VAL to fill the big gap in the Calender between St Bernards and Stawell so I'm pretty confident they have Board approval to run those distances.

I don't reckon the board can approve a non-standard distance. Frmo what youngy posted, it's gotta be a distance on that list

Honestly the VAL arranges a non penalty meeting to fill in the gap to Stawell with non standard distances to allow athletes to run without concern for their Stawell marks and we have some drop kick carrying on about whether they have the authority to run these distances.

Get real.

Ribera & Phantom have adequately explained the purpose for the meet & the events.

The VAL has added the Dandenong meet to the calendar, to fill a gap due to the unique situation of a later than normal Stawell Easter carnival.

PS: We can do without the 'dropkick' tag.
