When I am more interested in the number of entries and results of a small 120m race than the 70m gift we have a problem. There are 83 entries in one of the smallest races around that carries a bonus of half a metre. This is for those who think they may be a chance but do not want to sacrifice their mark for years to come. The track is generally pretty ordinary so times will not be a factor one would think. As has already been pointed out, the mark of Tim Rooke must be wrong. Who are the main chances?

Dragon Walrus

Adams for me, went super quick in semi at Keilor, and then lost time in final, thought he was going to win, nothing against Harvey, deserved winner for sure,

Maybe waiting for a few more lifts to get out to 10m for stawell.

Good call on Green although I like him more for the Don as he has similar 70 handicap to 120 handicap. Has 7.25m over 120 & 7.00m over 70m.

Aidan Green just ran 5th in a heat at Keilor. time-13.19 mark-7.25. It would be a massive turn around if he won Avondale a week later. He has no chance on form.
If Green wins won't the stewards will be asking questions?
Vine, Voumard the same. no 120 form this season, needs massive improvement to just make final?
Agree with Carter, Browne, Lugo, Magree, Adams, Ware, all have shown form.

Bang bang

Rosen off 14 just wins surely while Lugo and Ware fill the placings

It is that time of the week again and maybe it is that the season is drawing towards its close or maybe the stewards picking up non trying is not as consistent as I would like. One thing is for sure I do not understand many things anymore it seems.

I am going to start by looking at those who received votes who will not win and by that I mean anyone above a mark of 10m. Unless one of the older athletes out in front in Biggs, Fawcett, Coulson, Rogers or Hilditch want to take a win because open wins are now few and far between, what possible benefit is there for one of the others to win? The winner will come from behind the Stawell limit. It will be someone who is not entirely sure if they have what it takes to make the final. It will possibly be someone who has scope for improvement but wants to test themselves against others who are close and someone who knows that another preseason puts them thereabouts with an early win next year. It could be the good old smokey who after the heats realizes that they can win in a slow time to throw off the bookies that is if the bookies are present this year.
Rub out the votes for Rosen as he will win something bigger later. He can use this race as a form race because the stewards will not be able to pull him in for not trying. Rub out the votes for Mair. He will win another gift at some stage in the next season or two, he is very good at missing until he wants to win. Rub out the votes for Lugo, he probably wont even run the 120m. That leaves the poll leaders behind 10m to be.

Hamish Adams 9m / Jake Ireland 9m - 14% - Adams looks to be a big chance at a win soon. He has made good finals and gone close. Can he win with others around him chasing a bonus lift? Is this the race he takes to have a bit of a guess at his end of season form. Todd Ireland knows how to get guys into the Stawell final and Adams off 10m next season may make more sense. I don't think he will win this one, I feel that he will take a bigger win early next season and sit on the limit for 2019. Good looking runner though. Ireland or the Jake variety is quietly going about his business. He does not have the explosive speed his dad had at the same age but is a stronger looking athlete already. The pace is too quick for him at the moment and this year should be about him learning how to compete. Another year or two and he could win a big one.

Look to the mid to back of the field for this one.
