Bendigo now offering parity for womens 120 & 400

Go down  Message [Page 1 of 1]

Fantastic news was announced at Ballarat that the womens 120 & 400 at Bendigo would carry the same prizemoney as the men. 120m women now $5000 and 400m womens pearl $6000.
There has been no official update on either VAL or Bendigo Madison websites so stay tuned.

To keep the parity in line the limits should also be identical. For instance, the 400m mens limit is 40m and the womens is currently 60m. Either pull the womens limit back to 40m or relax the mens limit to 60m.
I think the mens needs to go to 60m due to lack of entries in recent times. To have only 6 heats where winners and 18 times qualify for semis has become a farce. Runners just do enough to get a semi final run and reduces the spectacle. Maybe the semis need to be scrapped.
If the club insist on keeping semi finals then my suggestion is to reduce the number of semi finals to 2 semis of 8 runners and have a 50m or 60m limit. That way we would have 8-10 heats with only 6-8 times getting into semis. Or better still, scrap the semis and have cut throat winner only into final.

Forget the "elite" argument. The elite runners don't show plus that tag was lost when kids started winning off handicaps in the 30's.

Look out, Ribera to the rescue again.
With a bit of luck the powers to be are ready to embrace a few more fresh ideas and willing to take a few risks to help keep this amazing sport moving in the right direction.

Has there been any more discussion on raising the
limit in the black opal yet? It looks like there will be
a lot of guys now above the limit. Would probably be
a better race with a few sharks off the front making
the backies earn it.

Shift the limit to 60m and scrutinize poor performances throughout the season to make our big races the best spectacle we can.
