Congratulations on Ararat committee for providing a first class track. Great to see the lane ropes up. It is a shame that some stables don't support these meetings. Disappointing that there wasn't more Ballarat juniors entering considering how close to Ararat they are. You can't expect the VAL to put on more junior races if the ones we have aren't supported. There was a 120 and a 400 there yesterday with only 2-3 heats of each.

Can anyone shed some light on Newman. Did he look fit or does he have more in him?

El Chapo Guzman

It appeared that Newman couldn't match the early speed of Sonsini and Keast either side of him and tightened mid race. Wasn't ready for the intensity of a Gift final.

Is Newman entered for the Bay Sheffield?

How convenient he froze under pressure at Ararat then.
Now goes to bay with mark intact and if he does not win, goes to Castlemaine for the 0.75 on offer, same as offered at Ararat.

The Ararat Gift this year unfortunately clashed with our annual training boot camp and I’m not going to risk letting our juniors run after a high intensity training camp. To encourage and send runners to a Gift meeting when I clearly know that they are not going to perform near their best is against the VAL rules....the new rules this year are very clear. And you may recall a little while back that we suffered one of the biggest penalties and biggest penalty ever on a junior athlete for supporting a non-penalty Ararat meeting.

This time of the year is the best time to run our training camp as most are on School holidays and have time and it also bust their fitness for the season ahead.

The Ararat Gift also clashed with the LA State Relay championships and we had a large number of our younger Juniors there.

You will see the POD Squad supporting and enjoying the VAL junior races in a big way soon enough and I hope we see many other stables growing their junior programs and doing likewise.

The VAL is yet to address a structured pathway for juniors, I was hoping that this was going to be addressed over the winter for implementation this season as I believe this should be the number one strategic growth priority for the VAL. Juniors are our future

A well thought out and funded Junior Pathway will lead to increased numbers, increased revenue, increased resources and a better run sport and a bright future for our sport in the medium to long term.

For without a well-structured junior pathway the VAL has no future.
