Having a 300m Gift race is always interesting and this one looks to be just that. I can see a number of good chances if the preseason has been kind to everyone. Who do we like for the first Gift of the season?

No form to go on really, so this is based on if each athlete is running pretty close-ish to their best...

My final of 10 (?):

Luke Stevens 0
Running well in the ammos and always a bloody chance. Can someone fatten him up though?!

Nathan Riali 11
A real talent. Has gone from strength to strength, 11m is a great mark.

James Vine 18
Based on memory, Pretty boy Vine came into the season in ok form last yr. Either way, competitive off 18.

Cam Dunbar 19
A nice lift from his usual vets mark, is certain to final in this race as well as the 70, 100 and any other race he competes in. Will podium.

Ryan Camille 20
Good mark for an explosive runner. Won't be chasing the 1m this time, so may be a little more focused here. On second thought, has he ever even run in anything beyond 120m?  Question

Edward Ware 23
Likely to instead be chasing the 1m lift, though 23m  affraid

Joshua Tiu        25
Similar to Ware, out on 25m is a scary thought. Unless in really poor shape, will final and win. Wouldn't be surprised if he won by a country yard.

TIM ROSEN 26
This time of year is like Easter time for Rosen, he typically picks up his sashes early on in the smaller gifts. Will also final in the 100m me thinks. Great marks across the board by the way.

p.s. is it in ROSEN's appearance contract that his name always appears in CAPS?

Noddy Angelakos 27
Thought he would do damage in the vets 300s last season, didn't get close by memory(?). 27m for a good athlete though  Shocked a chance.

Darren Whittaker 35
Always in the mix early in the season and will be raring to go. Will finish top 3 and kick his season off nicely! A very hugable sentimental favourite every time he lines up and all round nice guy.

Winner: Tiu

Can't make it down this week, but I would love to see some videos of race heats and finals if anyone is able.

300m is a long way for the Tiu Tiu train.
I'll stick with young blood Grouis or Bramham.

After a hot day watching the many representatives of the VAL strut their stuff at relays we turn our attention to the first Pro meet of the season. The polling has closed, here are you chances.

Nathan Riali 11m - 10% - Riali has turned into a quality athlete and with a very handy 10m tomorrow he has to be a chance. I can see him challenging for the final but am unsure if he has the legs in him to get around the pack and find the podium. Final at best for me.

James Vine 18m - 12% - This is a good vote. Vine has had a few quiet seasons but has built his marks out nicely whilst getting his body right again. Meeting Riali 7m better off and with a few more longer races under his belt I think he could be in the mix. One to watch.

Tim Rosen 26m / Noddy Angelakos 27m - 16% - The Man had another good season last year. He found his way into finals regularly and could start the season with three more. If he has improved again of the winter he will be hard to beat. If we have seen his peak already then he will possibly make the finals if there is more to come he will win plenty more this season. Angelakos is another one to watch. When his body is sound he is a threat off his marks. Another athlete who has the ability to win over the distance, especially of this kind of mark.

I am hoping that the votes for one entrant on a mark between 15m and 20m are a joke.

Good luck
