The Ballarat Athletic Club Inc is very excited to announce a new major sponsorship that will help secure the future of distance racing at our prestigious Ballarat carnival. Former star athlete and now athletics promoter Wayne Clarke has very generously announced that he will sponsor both the 1600m Open and 3200m events at Ballarat for the next 5 years. Total prizemoney for each race will be $1000.

Wayne is bringing an exciting International Track Classic to the Mentone Athletic Club on Thursday Feb 22nd 2018 and is currently finalising plans for a 2nd Track Classic to be held in Ballarat on Monday March 12th 2018 at Llanberris Reserve. These meetings will provide a great lead in to the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in April 2018 and Australias best athletes will be showcased.

The Ballarat Track Classic will have total prizemoney of $20k with a 1 mile and 3k event available for both men and women... 4 races with $5k on offer for each event. Final details will be released in the near future...

Great news for Ballarat and athletics in general. One point though, has Wayne seen the Mentone track in person more recently than the 80's when he trained there? It is currently looking anything but an international standard surface.

Ribera, don't tell me you're back home. Thought you may have spent the European summer at your Chateaux

Lord Ribera only allows us access every 2nd year as he can get triple rent during Monaco F1 grand prix. The wife has accepted a Taj Mahal tour for this year.
