Here's a question - mainly for the SA members.

I was looking at some results from 15/16 years ago and was looking at all the athletes who were placed and the stables they ran with.

I could find only six coaches who were active with stables in 2001 who are still active today.

Can anyone name the six?

Four should be easy but there's a couple that are not so easy.......

You took the words right out of my mouth Morphy.

I'm talking about those who have recognised SAAL stables of multiple athletes who regularly compete and race with the SAAL, as they did back in 2001. AND as they did back in 2001 - they've had multiple athletes on the dais.

Therefore I don't think these coaches qualify -
Greg Adams
Steve Butler
Sharon Ward
Dave Paterson

I wasn't able to get back on to PROTRACK last night - I was at the Rhino room for  a huge night of stand up comedy featuring American comic Deanne Smith and several local support acts. It was only a preview show for Deanne for her Melbourne & Sydney comedy gigs and she was brilliant. The whole show went for over 2 and a half hours. Great value.

Anyway back to the QUIZ,

Good call racingmania - it was Charles Sheffield.

And John LeRay got the other one - Paul Townley.

Correction though, Paul never coached Tom Hassell. Hassell was coached mostly by either Peter Deane, Nik Hagicostas or Dean Tonkin.

So the answer :
LeRay
McHugh
Sheffield
Thompson
Townley
Young

Well done John

Tom Hassel was registered as Self Trained in 2001 but Paul did have athletes running under his name such as Adam Hoare and Bill Varcoe

So the answer may be
Youngy
McHugh
LeRay
Thompson
Sheffield
Townley

Perhaps it needs to be mentioned also whilst we are mentioning 2001 and the meeting at McKinnon/ Pulteney is upon us.

In 2001 the Over 35s race was over 400m , won by no other than the Great Man Himself IAN REDDAWAY

AND THE 1600M was won by Mark Beveridge .He is the only athlete from 2001 1600m lining up in the  2017 1600m.GO BEVO. cheers cheers cheers cheers

Amatuer

Yes whispers, Bevo is looking very hard to beat with that sharp result at Flaggies. I think the other veteran in the field will be his biggest worry, they've already had a few battles down the home straight this year, and I believe this one will be no different!
