After looking at the interest of the potential winners of the VRTA awards I thought it may be a little bit of fun to look at what we think is the performance of the year. I have tried to grab wins that have been spoken about. I will have missed some and if they are not on the list it is not a reflection of the runner or the race they won. As you can see I have included male and female events, masters and distance, a number of different carnivals. Multiple picks are allowed so let's go for a top 5. I will run it for the week and go over the results on Monday after Bendigo. Obviously I cannot put a Bendigo result in although the 400m races and gift will be talked about.
What do you think?

The poll for performance of the year has closed. I was hoping for a clear cut top 5 but it will need to be top 6.

Procaccino - Ballarat Backmarkers 400m 13% - The Proc went out hard and rounded up the field for an emphatic win. While the time was not as quick as many may have thought to go around an entire field in a 400m takes some work and The Proc did it with ease.

Jackson - Maryborough Gift 10% - Jackson showed his cards early with dominant runs in both the heat and semi but it was the final where he really turned it on. Rooke tried to put the pressure on but Jackson was already gone. A big win for an older athlete.

4 tied with 7%

Ezard - Northcote 400m 7% - Ezard showed his intent by winning his heat by a long margin. His run in the final was a beaut with pressure from Yorke who started off the same mark. Ezard went quickly to work and won by a clear margin at the end. A very popular win for the likeable Ezard.

Repalaust - Stonnington Gift 7% - Repalaust won a close heat against another favourite before winning his semi in another close one. The final was more comfortable with Repalaust winning in a quick time.

Rizzo - Rye 70m 7% - Rizzo looked mighty good in strolling to a big win at Rye. Off 3.5m he ran like no one was watching with a blistering 7.59 in his heat followed by 7.47 in the semi. The final showed that he has pace to burn as he easily accounted for the field in 7.49.

Rogers - Ballarat 300m Masters - After I had been making fun of his potential in the 300m Rogers showed he had enough in the tank to take this one out. Going hard enough early and then kicking off the bend to head the field down the straight. Another popular win.

A reminder that this poll was set up before Bendigo. Things may have changed now. This was a good starting point.
