BASED ON RESULTS AND INCENTIVE LIFTS SO FAR MY TOP 4 FOR STAWELL FINAL ARE

SONSINI, (FLEW AT CASTLEMAINE)

RIZZO (CAN HE RUN OUT THE 120)

RIALI. ( FAST FINISHING AND PROBABLY THE MOST CONSISTANT  BACK MARKER IN THE VAL AROUND AT THE MOMENT, HE KEEPS GOING BACK AND STILL GETTING FASTER)

MCNAMARA (CAN START WELL, CAN HE FINISH, WELL THE MIX AS WELL.

OTHER WINNERS OF THE GIFTS

JACKSON ?? NO LIFT
DUNMALL ? (10.44 IN BRISBANE LAST YEAR ??)
CAMILLE ??

MAYBE THE VIC RUNNERS WILL FILL THE SPOTS THIS YEAR

I'm liking the look of McNamara. He took a win earlier in the season. What will he have come Easter?

Its going to be another cracking final. So many athletes have the ability to make it

5 Womens Gift stawell on Fri Jan 27, 2017 3:17 pm

Hey Uphold, my womens picks so far

Womens that look likely for easter time.

Kirsty Stevens - Struggling to run out 120's with speed at moment, might have something up the sleeve come april

Anna Pasquali - Her marks improving all the time and has experience under the belt, will give it a big shake.

Molly Farmer - Young girl with a lot of promise, moved very well in the 70m at bay sheffield, and large improvements do come with this age as seen by last years winner

Maddie Coates - Depending on track commitments, looks like she has stepped up another level this year, first run at zatopek looked fast, and ran a quick 120m at st albans into a head wind and uphill. Would love to see the one the call the goat in the final. All Class.

Liv Ryan - Having a trot around 300m at the moment and just doing enough, whispers have her in hiding, not anymore.

Sophie Taylor - looked on right from the start of the season at sandy, hasn't run a womens since, given the men a run for there money at the moment in the opens too, based on that rpm up hill into headwind at st Albans she's in great condition and getting back to her best. Giving herself every opportunity and in a stable that has a few talented backmarkers to push her.

A couple of others that i thought would have been a chance has already taken wins this year are Lane, Rouch and Payne ( a big improvement on last year, i big what if know but does have heavy pockets now thanks to efforts at Bay)

Is this the last year of the 60k, maybe but at least with that kind of money available the limit has come down. pitty 2 years too late.

Stephanie Richards mate she's my Easter Bunny, looks great in the Open 70m Races and Open Gifts and doesn't even looks like she is getting out of second gear. Add to that Perry Domaschenz and Dobbyn of the Victorian Brigade to your Easter Bunny list Fishbowls

Disagree on a few of them toolman.

Yes Richards is in with a good position. But. I thought that last year as well. I expect her too be. Missed that one.

Disagree on the others thou. Even if they are in a position. Both pod will be under the watch full eyes of the powers that be. Doma hammed on weekend. Uap. Ouch.

His last 120m mark he ran off was 5.00m at Euroa last season. Having taken his win at Warrnambool (a 100m gift), that would mean he would receive 6.00m at stawell? Since he did not run off a 120m mark of 5.50m, is he able to receive a 1.00m lift on top of a mark he did not run off?

Ryan McNamara will run off 5.75 at stawell.

How does that work? My calculations have him off 6.00m come Easter.

The Stawell lift the men receive for winning a smaller gift is a nice incentive for the runner himself and has lifted the standard of the smaller gifts. (Much to the ire of veteran runners who are no longer left in front). Is it all smoke and mirrors though? These runners expose their form and think they have been given a leg up only to have interstate runners thrown in. Last year Dunmall skipped down the track at Keilor missing the final. He then received a 1m lift for Stawell. The Trinity winner form the week before and the Geelong winner from the week after got 0.50m.

Spot on Kanga to move his Stawell mark from 5.25 to 6.75 on the back of a couple of canters down the straight track the year after winning Stonnington is a luxury no Victorian runner would be afforded. Not sure they will allow this to happen again to the Ilett Newman and Eckford types who seem to be dabbling in this approach to my eyes

From that Stonnington final on Friday night I think it's fair to say that Riali is a huge contender for Easter bunny.

Riali was a huge contender for the 'Easter Bunny' well before Stonnington.

Nathan Riali has absolutely no hope of winning the Stawell Gift. He won't even make the final.

Big call thats the stats. Just wondering if your stats are fact or fiction. I'm thinking the later.

A 10.80/10.90sec runner can't possibly win off 4.75m boys. He'd wanna find a couple of yards in a hurry

See thats why your stats are just fiction.  Rpms beg to differ,

Sonsini

Rizzo

Riali

Top 3 Vics chances at moment based of rpm.
but who knows who's still got something up the sleeve.
I did have McNamara in that but rumor mill suggests injury

My mistake Fishy I thought he won Rye off 4m and it was only a 0.75m lift for that one. His Ballarat heat was slick but then dropped a lot of time in the semi. If there is any other evidence he is regularly running those RPM's I must have missed it. I know he is probably playing the game a bit but I've still got a fair few ahead of him. Are you saying he might be running within himself ? Don't let me stop you backing him but I won't be. Good luck to the young lad though.

Is there an athlete ranking list anyone cares to share showing say top 20 times runs to date over 70/100/120 inc associated RPMS

Different tracks won't necessarily make it a fair comparison but would still be a good baseline guide.

Would it be fair to say Sophie Taylor is firming as the favourite for Stawell?

geton wrote:Would it be fair to say Sophie Taylor is firming as the favourite for Stawell?

Absolutely Geton the RAD squad could be in the hunt for a 1 2 finish at Stawell. Taylor showed in the early rounds at Ballarat and Stonnington that she is going to around the mark that's for sure. Coates also will be right in the hunt and I can't split them at the moment. Will be interesting to see if Coates PB in Canberra will effect her mark.

Sophie is scary, I wouldn't want to come up against her in a heat at Stawell. Looked like she had the girls well under control on Friday night. Maddie, Kirsty S and Steph Richards look really dangerous too. Jess Williams is on fire too, 12.55s and was off 11.75m last year. She could win it by space.
