Ballarat Athletic Club I know it is important to advertise and in some way gloss up your meet to attract customers as such, and you spend a lot of time & put a great deal effort than most and should be commended for it.

However I am not sure you have gone the right way about it on this occasion, you have done nothing to bolster Victorian/South Australian relationships with what I can only described as loosely made claims surrounded your event (there maybe some truth in them) but for the most they are very subjective.

Now you are claiming the relays are just a bit of fun but they decide who the best sprinting stables for the year are, that sounds more serious than fun and on the basis the men's relay was a combined stable last year who then was actually the best sprint squad ?

I think you just need to reel it in a little and get on with putting on a great meet which you have in the past and are quite capable of doing.

As Denis Pagan says "Don't tell me how good you are, if you are any good other will tell me that"

Best of the luck for the meet I look forward to it again this year as I do every year

Apologies you are right, the wrong way around.

The current title holders are

Men's 4x 200m - POD Squad

Women's 4 x 200m - Combined Fiedler/McKenzie Stable.

Great to see the passion and interest in the relays.

We will review the club records this week and post the past winners.

Another query for BAC rep
If a winner isn't coached by a registered coach , where does the 10% end up ... does the winner keep the extra or does the 10% get divided between the finalists or the placings

Yes, less is often more and yes it should be clear and simple.

Races should be classified as:

- 0pen or
- Restricted

Restricted meaning - restricted to age, gender, novice status or a combination.

Open meaning - anyone over the age of 14.

Ballarat has for 25 years been paying 10% of the prize pool to the coach of all the winners.

The trainers 10% prize money goes to the VAL registered, interstate registered trainer or registered self-trained athlete.

It is very rare for the club to have unclaimed prize money.
Unclaimed prizemoney goes into next year's gift meeting. If it went to the winner there would be no incentive, the winner of every race at Ballarat gets at least 50% of the total prize pool as per the VAL recommendations.

The total prize pool includes the trainers 10% which effectively means the winning party gets 60% of the prize pool so it is worth winning at Ballarat. The BAC believes this to be fair as it is only the winners that receive a handicap penalty unless others break target time.

So the Ballarat Athletic Club encourages all trainers to get registered and support the VAL or your home state league, if you have not already done so. So don't miss out on your 10%.

It is a strategy that encourages trainers to encourage their athletes to participate at Ballarat and also to register with the VAL, there is very little other incentive to be a register trainer with the VAL and no other incentive at all to be a joint registered athlete and trainer.

We receive positive feedback every year from trainers especially interstate trainers. Ballarat supports trainers.

All revenue and profits received or made by the Ballarat Athletic Club goes back into the VAL via prizemoney or conducting and growing the Ballarat meeting for the VAL and professional athletics.

The BAC is not a fundraising body for any other cause, all money goes back into the sport of professional running by sustaining and growing the Ballarat Gift meeting. We have also in the past donated money to and sponsored other VAL clubs.

The Club would like to thank all trainers for encouraging their athletes to enter Ballarat, there are record entries at Ballarat this year. All the best and good luck to all Trainers and Athletes at the Ballarat Gift meeting. If there are any suggestion on how we can improve our meeting, please email the club.

It is still not too late to a part of one of the biggest and best meetings in Australia....late entries are still available.

Arguably the second biggest 800m of the entire Victorian season and the final will be run at 10:20am in the morning. I pity those poor finalists who will struggle to focus amongst all the support they'll be receiving from the sidelines.

I know scheduling is always difficult but this is a little silly. Having the final late on the Saturday would have been a much better outcome.

Not just a fair point. Very good point. The 800m final should be a priority, feature prominently on Saturday. Methinks after the 120m Gift heats would be the best time. 10.20 on Day two is treating the 800 boys and girls like a footy teams reserves.

Agree Trackstar would be a much better time for it after the 120 Heats, were it sits at the moment really lessons the value of one of the great 800s for the season.

After consulting with the middle distance running community via the VRTA we have decided to change the time of the 800m final -it will now be on the Saturday evening at 4.30pm just before the 70m and 3200m final. It will be part of the Finals block at the end of day one.

Thanks DizzyRunner for your initial suggestion.

Ballarat Athletic Club

Ballarat Supports Coaches and Trainers

Ballarat has for 25 years been paying 10% of the prize pool to the Coach or Trainers of all the winners.
The trainers 10% prize money goes to the VAL registered, interstate registered trainer or registered self-trained athlete.
The total prize pool includes the trainers 10% which effectively means the winning party gets 60% of the prize pool so it is worth winning at Ballarat. The BAC believes this to be fair as it is only the winners that receive a handicap penalty unless others break target time.

The following are registered trainers of the VAL (as at Monday 30th Jan 2017 as provided by the VAL)and are eligible for Trainers prize money and to enter a Stable Relay.

Trainer/Athlete: Mark Hipworth, Todd Ireland, Rodney Mathews, Gordon Muir, Darren Whittaker, Peter O’Dwyer, Craig Mair, Paul Tancredi, Paul Bolton, Richard Wearmouth, Tom Morehouse, Khan Marr, Scott Rowsell, Peter Noden, Terry Mcgarity, Thomas Barry, Joshua Mather, Hana Basic.
Trainers: Mark Thomas, Graeme Watkins, Kerry Mcconnon, Nick Fiedler, Max Warlow, Marcus Arnold, Michael Benoit,
Robert Duynhoven,John Knott, Barrie Milligan, Shane Mckenzie, John Henry, John Nicolosi, Doug Armstrong

There is still time for Victorian Trainers to register with the VAL. Interstate trainers are to be registered with their home state league to be eligible.

If you are registered and not on the above list please be in touch with the VAL and Club.
