While Stawell and Bay may be the best and currently offer more prize money The Ballarat Gift Meeting is actually the 2nd biggest Professional Athletics Meeting in Australia, it has more events and entries than every other meeting except Stawell and we will continue to do everything possible to grow our meeting and offerings.

The good folk of Ballarat would like to congratulate the SAAL on conducting a professionally run and fantastic Bay carnival great to see the extensive junior program all looks good for the future of the SAAL.

Collingwood syndrome. Pick out one or two favourable stats (eg; number of members) and declare your the biggest or 2nd biggest club.
That's OK, pump your tyres.
The rest of Australia knows what the real pecking order is.

I think it is a great bit of advertising. Hopefully the locals get around it and the sponsors continue their excellent support as well. Ballarat has become one of the biggest carnivals in Australia no doubt. How you want to spin it is up to you but no one can argue that it is much improved at this location, the prize money is consistently very good and there is a huge number of events available for many athletes. All the key ingredients of a top gift carnival.

Bay Sheffield is an amazing spectacle as evident by strong crowds again this year. No one can argue with that either. Ballarat even said as much.

Well done Ballarat, keep on making this event one of the highlights of the season. I hope many athletes stay on to watch the Nitro event as this is a great initiative too, sadly I already have tickets so will not be there but have a whisky for me.

Who will be the number one professional sprint stable in Australia - for both Men and Women and take out the traditional stable relay, the last event on day two of a huge Ballarat running program.

Now youre treating us like morons. Deliberately put Ballarat on same weekend as SA's 2nd biggest carnival, Camden, so it conveniently deters SA stables going to Ballarat. Then have the audacity to boast the relay will decide the number one pro stable in Australia?
Is Eddie McGuire your president?

15 Re: Ballarat Gift on Wed Jan 18, 2017 3:05 pm

Ballarat Athletic Club

The clash was unfortunate, Ballarat had no choice this year for a number of reasons (sponsors, venue, AV clashes), it was not a deliberate act to take on Camden, we will do everything in the future to avoid the clash but Camden need to be a bit flexible also, it is not good for the sport to have these clashes.

Quite the opposite we very much want the South Australian athletes at Ballarat it would be good for us in many ways. And no doubt many SA athletes would love to compete at Ballarat.

Actually can I have 2? The other 1 I'll shove up Fishbowl's bum. Will spare us his dribble for 5minutes.
Thanks Ballarat, you can see the frustration when Camden has had the same date for 30 years.

Verrall?

Clay's with CTC, Hicks team. CW not running well. Coldn't break 22seconds in a 200 last night. WLS just behind him. and Moss got within whisker in the 100.
Hunt only 17 and would beat Clay going on last night. huge talent but been there 5minutes.

The Ballarat Gift has many times in the past clashed with Camden, we hope not to next year but there will be another meeting that will, even though Camden has been on the first Sunday of Feb for 30 year’s things do change and they need to be a little bit flexible to arrive at the best outcome for the sport and for the SA runners. Camden should speak with the VAL annually to get the best outcome for all.

Looking forward to seeing all these SA relay teams next year, in the mean time we will try to get a bigger sponsors and up the prize money to make it worth your while. If you guarantee your entry, we will guarantee increased prize money.

But don’t underestimate the Vics and Queenslanders there are some quick team there that are quietly going about their business.

Not that many squads would really care too much about the Ballarat Relays I think a mixed Squad relay could be pretty interesting.Imagine JH's Bee , Stevens ,K Stevens and LJ Hilditch facing off against RAD's McNamara , Riali , Coates and Taylor that would go down to the wire I would think. What other mixed Superteams are there out there? Could be something to look at in the future

thats would be a great mixed relay clash hubba, my moneys on RAD by a few metres thou. 6 out 8 of the runners all have one thing in common. Sam Leslie myphysio, interesting.
Another relay team that would give rad a run for there money would be fitzy squad of Johns, Baird, Morgan mitchell and Ash Whittaker.
Battle of the Squads.

A mixed relay is a great idea, maybe another meeting with a good 400m track could get this going.

The Ballarat Stable 4 x 200 Men’s and Women’s relay is fun prestigious traditional event and always brilliantly call by Cartha...to determine the best professional sprint stable in Australia...so don't miss it.

Winner take all- sash and $250.

The current champions are –

Men’s 4x 200m – Fiedler /McKenzie Stable

Women’s 4 x200m – POD Squad

Who will win this year?

400m B/M- Open Handicap ( Men's/Masters/Novice) $1,500.00

400m Open Handicap (Men's/Women's/Masters/Novice)can include runners behind the limit of the back markers 400m $1,000.00

BAC....just explain to me. The Open 400mts, you have written "Men's/Women's/Masters/Novice"..... so what you're saying is that its an Open 400mts....Which is what is written at the start of the race description.

Also does that mean that the open mile , open 3200, open gift, open 70mts is an open event as well.... meaning runners who are either male , female , over 35y and / or novices.

For future reference may i suggest that for novice races you may add, for Men , women, male masters, female masters and novices both female and male who are novices... Then maybe put a explanation/description of Men, women, people who are masters and people who are novices.

To clarify

70m Open Handicap – All can Enter

120m Restricted  - Novice only can enter

120m U18 Junior Boys Gift - Boys only

120m U18 Junior Girls Gift - Girls only

120m Masters - over 35 Men and Women can enter

120m Women's Gift – Women only can enter

120m Men's Gift      - Men only can enter

300m Masters - over 35 Men and Women can enter

400m  B/M- Open Handicap – All can enter but only Men will be competitive unless you are Cathy Freeman.

400m Open – All can enter

400m Women's – Only Women can enter

400m Restricted SportzBiz Series – u20 Boys and Girls only

800m Open Handicap –All can enter

1600m Open Handicap –All can enter

1600m Women's / Masters – Women and Masters 35+ can enter

3200m Open – All can enter

Men's 4 x 200m Stable Relay - Men only must be trained by same registered trainer.

Women’s 4 x 200m Stable Relay - Women only must be trained by same registered trainer.

The only confusion is that the VAL currently define Restricted to mean Novice.

In the past restricted races were restricted by age, gender or novice status.

Ok, now I get it, Open means everyone, that does seem an easier term to understand. Old saying.. "less is more"

Another query for BAC rep
If a winner isn't coached by a registered coach , where does the 10% end up ... does the winner keep the extra or does the 10% get divided between the finalists or the placings
