And we are ready to go. Great to see some of the regular faces back for a first up start. The last thing we always hear in the Gift hotel is how next year will be the year, well it starts with a 300m gift. With showers and strong wind potentially on the cards for Sunday will it be the strongest to survive or will a cagey athlete hold on from the front. One thing is for sure we are back!

Having a 300m gift race is always interesting. I kind of miss when there was a 550m gift. It usually throws up a few chances that we have missed. There are good entries in this race and not surprisingly we see one of our favourites right in the voting.

Joel Bee 5m – 12% - “Float like a butterfly’ is a chance. He is a back marker, not having to run around other slower people and with conditions that will favour his speed. ‘Sting like a’ will be right in this on the line and funnily enough I think it will be from our favourite. I hope the VAL radio is working for the final. I might have to tape it.

Dean Dobric 29m / Tim Rosen 29m – 24% - An we have our favourite. I was not surprised to see Dobric take out a good race last season. He looked great, in fact he reminded me of some of the bigger runners from the past. Nice guy, but is he in the same shape? Tim ‘ Live Well, Laugh Often’ Rosen will be spruiking for sure that he is a chance here. And so he should be. I hope they interview him for the radio. The problem is that while he may final I feel that there are a number of better runners near him. I cannot see him catching Whittaker in front of him and there will be pressure from behind. His training partner should also be able to catch him.

I don’t know about you but as Big Kev said ‘I’m Excited’ for the start of the season!
