Got a hunch the 70m is going to a frontie this year. 80 runners on 9m or more, there's got to be several who can break 7.6.

Tim Rosen 2nd at Bendigo off 9m ran 7.53. The favourite for mine. Been in reat from all year and hard to run down off 9.0m
Karlee Bailey 14.0m Goes up 1m from her mark last year when she ran a quick semi at Maryborough of 13m, 7.61. Beat Blizzard in the semi. Lost 2m only ran 7.82 in the final.
Sarah Blizzard ran 2nd at Albury off 13.5m in 7.68. Like Exum must be primed for the Womens Gift so will probably run the 70. also 2nd at Maryborough in 2015 to Jake Ryder off 13.5
Keely Henderson 13.75m looks good after winning Stonnington. Next day she won her heat at Keilor easily off 13.5m. Lost ground in the semi.
Tierra Exum won Maryborough in 7.60 off 13.5. Goes back 0.5 but will peak better for the Women's Gift, so should make up the 0.5.
Carrick Gill-Vallance 9.25 was 2nd at Keilor in 7.64. Keilor wasn't a fast track. Should break 7.6 easy.

Less than 9 metres
Andrew Robinson stands out. Generous mark for a Stawell Gift winner 4.25. 3rd at Ballarat off 4m, runs 7.56.
Dylan Panizza won Maryborough Gift but 70m mark did not change. 2nd to Exum in Mary 70 off 4.25.
Jasper Nettlefold won heat and semi easy off 5.75. Ran 7.56, only back 0.50. Can still final off 5.25.
Tom Paavola 7.50m, ran fastest heat at Keilor off 7.25m in 7.75. 3rd to Sonsini and Rosen at Bendigo in 7.58.
Rhys Gillson looked good at Keilor off 6.0, now has 6.25.
Craig Foley 8m, in best shape for a while won Keilor Gift.

Might be a few smokies
Graham Verbunt 13.5m
Tara Domaschenz 12m
LJ Hilditch 13m
Jack Norris won the 70m in SA yesterday.

Fair comment airtight.

Don't know much about the chances but I know one thing about the Arthur Postle.

The athletes have been ripped off something chronic.

The prize-money offered is woeful. I assume the race is sponsored to some degree. Yet they still charge $40 per entry. There are 227 entries in the 70m. That's a grand total of $9,080 in entry money. But the prize-money offered is only $2,380. Sash and trophy are normally sponsored. That's $6,700 'gross profit' on the nomination money.

I know the Stawell Gift is a big meet and costs a lot to conduct but there should not be that sort of discrepancy between the entry fees received and prize-money offered. My view is that prize-money for the most of the open events should be a minimum of $4000 (as per the Backmarkers 400m).

so true about prize money youngy. and no don furness this season so could of been big $$$$$
theres always a smokey. Can a backmarker win it. Riali of 2.5m ???. Robinsons mark is very delicious for stawell gift winner. or a shifty vet like previous years who smoked the field. Will be good to see.

The prize money at Stawell could do with an overhaul, but that is probably a discussion for another day. I do agree with Youngy here though.

I like Robinson as GLPR has mentioned. You are generally looking for a runner who is young and has a decent mark or a veteran who has been foxing. It is like a meat tray raffle, just buy your ticket and hope you number gets pulled out.

The Master

Lugo is a huge chance, ran 7.58 off 7 at Geelong and hasn't been seen since. Only entered for the 70 at Stawell so this is clearly his focus
Seems to like stawell as he made the 70 final last year off 7.5 only back 0.5 so all signs leading to lugo for me

Absolutely agree Youngy, Stawell are netting over $6,500 from this race in entry fees after pay the VAL, it is nothing other than wrong, this is a real question of integrity.

the race should be worth $6,500 without a sponsor.

Liking some of the tips and the reasons behind them.

By the way airtight, I got tipped off to check the urban dictionary for your alias. Suggestion was made it might not be appropriate. You rather cleverly got past the censors so yep, you can keep the alias, but it just goes to prove you're full of it. Smile

Agree with prizemoney comments. Not good.

I like Blizzard for the 70. She ran a PB of 11.98 in February. 13.50m is a huge mark for a sub 12 athlete.
11sec 100m athlete would need at least 6m to match Blizzard.
Nathan McNab has a 11.24s PB and is off 6.75m. Not good enough to catch Blizzard but he should final.

Yup Blizzard.... will go down in 7.30s if she runs it. Gonna break some hearts.
