We could literally have a poll for all race categories at Stawell such is the excitement this little country town produces. Not sure how many polls are realistically required, but one thin I know is that there have been some fillies running down the track with only one thing on their mind. A final on Easter Monday and a chance at a huge prize. Let's see if the general public has seen what I have. Who do we like?

cantrun

Can't see anyone able to beat Blizzard, I think she will run around 13.45.... and remembering the field has only been lifted 1.5mt this year.

Blizzard is well in on handicap relative to her recent PB, will be third time lucky for her I think.

With limited research on the interstaters at the moment I've come up with Blizzard Exum Payne Hawks Richards and Lane. Hopefully Blizzard can get the bikkies but I'm leaning towards Richards to finally get out of a trot and get up. Hawks a nice little lift at the right time puts her right in the mix and Payne well you never know what you are going to get from her. Could do anything on the day. Exum has got a bit in the tank I feel and Lane for a bit of a smokey as she is coming good at the business end of the season. Should be a Cracker Jack final. Wells can't be discarded either.

I've gotta agree with Cantrun and Phantom Blizzard is the one to beat. The Stonnington Run was phenomenal and has PB'd in the 100 since. I'm going to have a small wager on Purkiss as well. 70m Yarra Ranges win over the Stonnington Winner tells me she is running well. Hopefully she is at a nice price

Perhaps not all votes for the Blizzard group are for her.
Amie Mittiga is a huge chance going on her Bay Sheff 2nd. Forget her recent starts VAL starts, she wasn't at her best. Wink
She nearly caused a huge upset at the state champs, went close to beating Margaret Gayen and Lynette Viney. Best handicapped of the SA athletes and should final.

Don't  under estimate  Payne she is a quality runner, with impressive times. Look at Ballarat and Stonnington . My money is on her she is ready to for a big win, and this is it .

Blizzard another quality athletic with awesome times not quite sure many times a brides maid but may surprise

Either way a cracking final

That how I see it

Don’t overlook Kirsopp-Cole just won an under 18 400m Australian title in 55.5, has to be in it of 7.5m and if not the 120m has to be a big chance from 16m in 400m.

Women 400 Metre U18
1, Kirsopp-Cole, Tess, VIC, 55.50. 2, Bennett, Rebecca, NSW, 55.78. 3,
Pieszko, Rachel, QLD, 56.74. 4, Bayes, Lily, VIC, 57.71. 5, O'Dwyer, Grace,
VIC, 58.24. 6, Trikaliotis, Deyana, NSW, 58.69. 7, Russell, Imogen, NSW,
59.10.

She's a quality 400m runner Kirsopp Cole but can't see her getting close in the gift Fast. Should be at big odds though. Much better suited in the 400m but would need a lot of luck in running off 16m. Great to see the young quality amateur runners having a crack at it though

Yes her Uncle Sam was a great pro-runner and it would be a great story for the sport if she was able to get up. Let’s hope she has a good experience and runs more in the VAL, we need quality female athletes like her.

I think the winner will come from these 6 runners - Bridget Powell, Kendra Hubbard, Melissa Breen, Angela Byrt, Lauren Wells and Elly Graf because other athletes only got 1.5m lift this season from Breen.

Yeap no doubt the QLD Beach sprinters will be there again- whilst the others have been jumping over small hurdles and focusing on stride pattern/ foot strike on a synthetic track the 'beachies' have been building their brute power by sprinting through the heavy sand in competition - then they get on the grass and bounce!!

Who are these beachies you speak of Oldman ?Wasn't Fein the only one close to the final last year and I reckon she may have been fixed up by the handicapper this year

Voting has definitely slowed for the Women’s Gift. Only 31 so far. There will be a number of girls who have set themselves for a shot at the title and increased prize money. Let’s hope for a good, close race. The chances according to the poll are;

Amie Mittiga 7m / Sarah Blizzard 7.5m (7 votes 23%) – Mittiga is a good bet here. Ran a 14.1 at Bay off the same mark in the final and 14.0 in the semi. The most impressive run for me was at Ballarat up the hill off 5m where she ran times of 14.269 in her heat and 14.29 in her semi. Up 2m from there! This time does put you right in the mix. Can she beat the likes of her poll mate in Blizzard off the blocks to put some pressure on straight away? I must admit that while her time is good, I think that she will final at best. Sarah Blizzard is cherry ripe here.  We have not seen her as much which indicates that she is ready. She ran a great race at Stonnington and is handicapped to be right in it at the end. Last season Grace O’Dwyer did a similar thing at Stonnington and ran away with Stawell. I think she will be in the dip at the line on Monday and maybe be just edged out. If she can move through the field after 50m like we want to see the male athletes do, then she is the winner. Watch her heat with interest as she is a huge chance.

Jemma McDowell 9m / Jessica Payne 9m (10 votes 32%) – Jemma McDowell is making up the numbers here, here recent results do not suggest that she will be in the mix come Monday.  ‘Feel the Payne’ is my girl here. She ran 13.92 in her heat at Ballarat and is up 1 metre. Not sure you should be handicapped to break net time, but what would I know. She lost time in the semi and while she made the final at Stonnington went missing in the final. Must be a serious chance at the win here and I think will be in the dip at the line with Blizzard. There is your one, two according to the poll and for what it is worth my own tips.

Not many others to talk about based on votes, I will probably be in the bookie ring for the heats, come and say hello.

Payne got caught at rye, got away with it at the rat - so 3rd time lucky it won't matter as the damage could be done by Sat arvo
