Get out to the limit as quickly as possible then put the hammer down. Seems a pretty solid strategy to me Knotty. Probably not an altogether new approach to the game either I wouldn't have thought. Congrats to the Pods for getting another youngster a win

Every pro event should be approached by the handicapper as if the life of the bookies and the punters depended on him/her being as fair, consistent and accurate as possible. If what is said is the case what has occurred is not ideal. The athlete and coach - well takes a bit of gloss off the win but has anyone ever heard of an athlete asking for a pull

400m Restricted (SportsBiz)
1 Keely Shillito 120m 46.70s
2 Dani Pike 90m 70m 46.71s
3 Tom Deane 75m 47.183s
4 Beau Tran 53m 47.183s
5 Jack Anderson 24m 47.316s
6 Gerard Adams 82m 47.319s
7 Alex Coop 84m 47.42s
8 Kyle Hilson 84m 47.53s
9 Lachlan Wright 59m 47.97s
10 Michelle Young 94m 48.29s

Keilor 400m SportsBiz, Keely Shillito 100m was last of 10 in heat 5 in 55.44sec.
Heat won by Lachlan Wright 59m 49.32sec.

Bendigo track faster by est.1.5sec. Shillito 20m lift. Accounts for 3.3sec?

Has improved est. 4sec or 24m since Keilor. Is this within allowable improvement?

Same handicapper?

What could the handicapper do?

Last in Ballarat Sportzbiz 400m heat. 57.97  - 80m. 10sec behind heat winner.
Last in Keilor Sportzbiz 400m heat. 55.44 - 100m. 6sec behind heat winner.

Handicapper gave her 20m lift again and
Wins Bendigo Sportzbiz 400m final. 46.70 - 120m.

Good reply toolman have four runs and be on the limit in a $1000 restricted 400m race try telling that to the young runners who have been running the restricted series for three years and have yet to win a race

It's sarcasm Knotty I think it is wrong on all levels mate but people continue to get away with it. Stawell will take it to a whole new level. Until people are pulled up for it, it will continue to happen. I don't really pay too much attention to the distance races so I can't really comment on it but it happens over all the categories from what I can gather. Gives us something to debate though

The people associated with this young lady should be asked for an explanation. Clearly the handicappers do not want to look like fools. Pros is a long game. My prediction is this person will never win another race - she will be penalised, probably unfairly, from here on in. However the coach and those associated with the athlete and the athlete will be able to lookback on this day with pride and dignity in the knowledge that on this day she rose above her own doubts and fears to  produce an outstanding performance that will live with her forever.

The Handicapper for this event is doing a good job he is moving the marks around and giving heaps of young runners a chance and that is what you want for this event. The proof will be in how close the final race is at Stawell.

Young Shillito won the race by the smallest of margins and had she been lifted 19m would have lost by a metre. The handicapper nearly produced a dead heat, how often is that achieved in pro-running?

On analysing the heats the lad from Bendigo should have been the clear winner he was unable to reproduce his heat performance in the final, had he just run to his heat run he would have clearly won the race and given most improve from heat to final should have won the race comfortably. But these things happen in races some choke, some stuff up their race plan, some panic, some just are not able to back up.

Obviously you don't train runners kyle Hilton has been trying to win a novice for three years he keeps being pulled when he nearly wins if you watched the final at Bendigo you would have seen him trying to get passed the runners near him and ran wide and couldn't win he wasn't good enough it's easy to win a heat when nobody around you but finals are different three years and no win you work it out

It is now only a matter of time before the young Bendigo lad Kyle has a win, he now has the mark and just has to get the right run. The handicapper has done his job- put him on a handicap he can win from.
His heat time proves he has the handicap just has to get a bit of luck and put the right race together, good luck to him but was just wondering why he did not run Ararat the race was slower and the track wider and it was his last chance to win a restricted 400m this year, appears to me to be opportunity lost.
