Keilor mark - 7.25m
Geelong - Didn't run
Euroa - Didn't run
Bendigo mark - 7.75m

0.5m lift for not running, it's a good life for some!

Keilor to Bendigo, 37 lifts in marks. Unlucky if you ran Keilor and didn't get a lift for Bendigo. Even Keilor finalists got lifts.

Some of you guys really need to get your head around the handicapping system and how it works.

5 Re: Bendigo 120m Marks. Lots of lifts on Tue Mar 08, 2016 8:41 am

I know exactly how it works. It's like the meat tray raffle at the pub. The more tickets you buy the more chances of winning. Even if you won it the week before you can still win it this week, just buy more tickets. Even if you win lots of meat trays you still have a better chance than someone who never wins it, by buying more tickets.

Phantom i am quite happy to sit down with you and have you explain to me how all the handicappers work

7 Re: Bendigo 120m Marks. Lots of lifts on Wed Mar 09, 2016 9:27 pm

Thirty-seven athletes lifted overall. Only two athletes were pulled back in the marks from Keilor. The winner, naturally and Dylan Hicks has gone back 0.50m.

If you recall Dylan was in the first Keilor Gift heat and got shafted after a false start. Ran 80m before he was told and had to return to the start to run the heat again within 3mins. Basically he did a 200m split run (80/120). Naturally he didn't make the semis.

And today I heard from Hicksy that after an enquiry, the re-handicap was not a mistake.

He didn't receive an NAP or UP but will start from a mark .50m less than he had at Keilor.

Maybe someone (Phantom?) could enlighten us how the system works for a bloke who will turns 35 later this year, and has never won a Victorian Gift in 15 years of visiting the state and after the farce he endured at Keilor gets pulled half a metre.

Sorry Youngy, can't provide any logical reason for Hicksy and from what I've seen neither could the VAL.

In regard to the vast majority of the lifts though I'm sure they all fall in line with the handicap system which is pretty straightforward (whether we like it or not).

All interstate athletes are OGA. A lift, or a pull in this instance, can be issued after each run. Not sure if it was warranted, but it is within the guidelines.

I would have thought a 1/2m pull for a 35 year old who hasn't won , nor received an NAP or UP is extremely tough. Especially given the fact that some obvious deadens earlier in the season received Up's but no handicap adjustment.

Yes Mex, it might be within the rules but that doesn't make it right.

I don't know why handicappers want to create problems that weren't there to begin with.

It's patently obvious that pulling Dylan Hicks' mark achieved absolutely nothing in the context of the VAL Gift landscape other than to make him uncompetitive and incapable of now winning a Gift. And I would have thought given how many VAL athletes have multiple Gifts to their name, putting a bloke into the mix for his first Gift win might have come into the equation. But apparently not.

I've had a few similar issues myself this year where I might have over-analysed something or over-reacted to a result. Where a query has been made and the points raised were valid, I've been keen to rectify it. I can't see the point of having a disgruntled athlete where if I make the correction, everyone's happy.
