As we move back to voting on some running, the league has a double header this week. Looking at Wangaratta first, who are the chances? I am pretty sure that Tiu will not be off scratch.
Where do people rank Wangaratta in their list of best gifts? It used to be a highlight, do we still feel the same?

Interesting number of entries, not quite as many as I would have thought. Wang is an interesting gift, by far the most prestigious of all group 3 races. So much prestige in fact that I would say it is rates more highly than some group 2 gifts.

Assuming there are no scratchings, here is my finalists and winner.

Khan Marr 3.25 The backmarker that punters love to hate, he would make the final IF he ran, but we I reckon he’ll do a Jerry Seinfeld and ‘Choose not to run!”.

Paul Tancredi 6.75I’ll put my right booby on him making the gift final if he runs. He looks to be in ripping form already or heading in the direction, though going back-to-back is a questions mark with Ballarat only a couple weeks away. I would still put the Italian pocket-rocket in my trifecta. I have him finishing 2nd behind training partner, the Golden Greek.

Last 2 Gift runs:
Daylsford – SF (5.75m) Raw: 11.939 Adj: 11.699
Rye – 2nd in Final (6.75m) Raw: 12.221 Adj: 12.486

Cam Dunbar 7.75 -  Not going to make the same mistake of not putting him in the final this week. He’s as reliable as an AK-47 and about as lethal in the wrong hands! The shiny scone will squeeze into another final here though I reckon he’ll finish back of the field. Surprised that he didn’t make final at Rye, though he was good at St. Albans dodging all those bullets.

Last 2 Gift runs:
Rye – SF (7.75m) Raw: 12.614 Adj: 12.714
St. Albans – 5th in Final (7.75m) Raw: 12.907 Adj: 12.767

Dion Paull 8.25Struggled in the gift at St. Albans like a drunk man trying to peel back the paper on his kebab. Not sure what happen, though he ran a ripping race in Rye so you would have to say he’s a real chance to at least final. A good competitor, though I think he’ll be a regular in finals next season.

Last 2 Gift runs:
Rye – 4th in Final (8.25m) Raw: 12.294 Adj: 12.559
St. Albans – heat (8.25m) Raw: 13.295 Adj: 13.030

Brady Lehmann 9.5 – This kid is only going to get stronger and faster and I’m not sure if he’s made any Gift finals, but Wangaratta maybe the girl next door that pops his cherry!

Last 2 Gift runs:
Albury – SF (9.50m) Raw: 9.50 12.695 Adj: 12.685
St. Albans – SF (9.50m) Raw: 13.042 Adj: 12.832

Noddy Angelakos 11.5 Feels like he’s been a genuine chance every week and this week is no exception! The Silver Greek of St. Albans will return to being Golden again this week in Wang and follow in the footsteps of his training partner and do the Rye/Wang double. The Greek Gods have blessed Angelakos with an un-injured campaign and he’s repaying the debt. If only Greece received the same blessings! Will win.

Last 2 Gift runs:
Rye – 1st in Final (12.25m) Raw: 12.170 Adj: 12.435
St. Albans – 2nd in Final (11.50m) Raw: 12.809 Adj: 12.669

Darren Whittaker 12.25 Hasn’t run in many gifts this season, in fact I had to go to last season to see his last run before Daylsford. In good form over 300 and 70, which tells me he is holding off for something else, Stonnington perhaps? I saw a bunch of rat kill in his bags at Daylsford so maybe aiming for Ballarat in a couple weeks? If he doesn’t run I reckon Foley will take his place in the final.

Last 2 Gift runs:
Bendigo (2015) – heat (12.25m) Raw: 13.054 Adj: 13.109
Daylsford – 3rd in Final (10.25m) Raw: 11.217  Adj: 11.167

Lawrence Coop 12.5 A very neat mark indeed and I think this one may be yet another gift final for Coop and his best just yet! Hard to believe he couldn’t make it out of his heat at rye, but may have been saving himself for the 400…I suppose. He’ll find himself out there on 12.5m and may just be left out there! He’s my Katy Perry dark horse for Wang.

Last 2 Gift runs:
Rye – heat (12.50m) Raw: 12.807 Adj: 12.987
St. Albans – 6th in Final (12.50m) Raw: 12.954 Adj: 12.814

The final:
Marr
Tancredi
Dunbar
Paull
Lehmann
Angelakos
Whittaker
Coop

Angelakos to win.

Great write up by VicOutsider, I don't disagree with much there. The tipping has slowed but has revealed 4 main chances and Tim. These athletes and Tim have been thereabouts all season so no surprises in their voting. I am a little surprised myself that there was not more interest in Shepherd or Steinhauser. Both have good marks and with a win and the extra half metre could be dangerous later in the year. Anyway, on to the tips.

Paul Tancredi 6.75m (12%) - Paul has shown that the best is yet to come with his resurgence as a gift threat. Is it possible that he is running better this year after winning two gifts last year? He is the reigning gift champion at Wangaratta and will go very close to winning this one. I tend to agree with the Offsider that he may target one of the bigger gifts that are just around the corner. Will final if he runs and will go close but not quite close enough. Placing if he runs.

Cam Dunbar 7.75m (15%) - Dunbar is always up and about and has made several finals already this year. Occasionally he misses one and judging by his sprint in the 300 Masters at Rye is pissed when he doesn't make the gift final. He must win something soon, but has been just off the quicker finals pace at St Albans, Daylesford, Maryborough, Terang and Meadowglen. Has won just about everything there is to win, so picking and choosing his race is probably fair enough, just annoying. Has made a few Wangaratta finals though, might be his time? Placing at best.

Dion Paul 8.25m (10%) - Another week, another pay cheque for this improving runner. What will his instructions be this week? Make the final and run the 1600m in between the semi and final? Not sure what he is targeting other than paying for his petrol each week. Must win something soon or the stewards should be discussing why not. Good luck to him, final likely if he runs, won't win though.

Noddy Angelakos 11.5m (13%) - Angelakos won Rye after a couple of years of trying to pick up a descent gift. Having done that he went very close to spoiling the party for POD and his espresso bunny. Is obviously still up and should ride it while he can and while he is fit. Another that if he runs he finals, the difference here is that I would not be surprised if the Golden Greek destroys the field early and runs away with another win. Top two.

Tim Rosen 13 and still out in front (12%) - Let's be honest, Tim 'The Tool Man', 'The Man', 'The Lord of the Gifts', Rosen had a fantastic start to the season but seems a bit of a spent force if his St Albans run was anything to go by. Rumour has it he was injured and maybe that is the reason for his fall from grace. But, like Vic Sharma, it is very hard to stay up for a long time. He won a 200m and 120m, does he have his sights set on a 70m somewhere? Could he be trying his luck off close to the limit for Stonnington? Even off close to the limit he would be up against it one would think. One thing is for sure, I like writing about him Wink I am thinking of another name for him as we speak. Final at very best, likely to miss out if all others run though.

Not much has been made of a young lady who has now entered a few gifts. Handy mark, but maybe it is more about keeping her women's mark than winning the gift? Another one a Maribyrnong on Tuesday too. There are some good runners in this one, I will be very interested to see the results.

Good luck
