Moving on from the double header at Warrnambool and Terang to Northcote. After some very fast times hand held or not we could be in for a very hot final. Mex is currently 2 from 3 this year with another finalist after correctly tipping last weekends winners. Who are our tips? Please note that marks do not reflect any pull from last weekend.

Rosen smashed em at T Rang.
His 11.55 for 100m on 9 Oct at the amo’s had him as unbeatable off 14.75m handicap. Me maths is poor but after adding .1 for grass, he was down to run 12.26 for 105.25m. On bumpy grass he ended up with 12.26 in semi and 12.28 in final (hand ? time).
He only has to run 87.75m at Northcote (before the handicap pull). Me brain calculates that to 10.25 on grass. Last year Northcote was won in 10.8.
Good luck to the roosters hoping to win and get a 1m lift for Stawell.

GLPR, I missed Sharma in the entries. His 10.12 was hand time on hard mondo. Will be a good race between him and Rosen.
Ware got smashed at the bool by Sharma but Ware was clear of the rest. Apart from Foley the rest would be lucky to make semis at a major.
Parkinson needed the extra 20m and was never a chance to win. Closed in the last 20 when it was all over. Stevens needs the extra 20m.

Northcote hosts the league this week, at Waverley and with 95 votes so far, this has been the best poll of the season. Some regular faces in the votes with a few speculators. Let's take a look at the poll favourites;

Cam Dunbar 6.25m / Young Tonumaipea 6.25m (14 votes, 15%) - Dunbar is always up and about, only ran the gift last week, is this his focus? Another runner who may be tempted by the extra metre but did not seem up to the challenge of Rosen, Ware, Parkinson or Sharma all showing early form as well. Likely final. Tonumaipea has adapted to the sprint track well under the careful eye of Fiedler. I would not think that this race is too high on the agenda for Tonumaipea, watch if he runs regularly for another Fiedler attack on Stawell. Votes here surely for Dunbar.

James Collier 7.5m / Rhys Parkinson 7.5m (10 votes, 11%) - Collier is probably more noted as a dizzy runner of varying distances. I may have missed something, but probably doing the work now to move out through the sprint field before really hitting the sprint track in earnest. Hippo has had success with this model before. Parkinson has shown good form this season so far. A couple of years ago Parkinson won everything including the egg and spoon race and if he is back to that kind of shape, he is a chance of winning almost any race this season that he wants. I would think that these votes are all for Parkinson. Definite final.

Vic Sharma 11.5m / Julian Fawcett 11.75m (25 votes, 26%) - Poll favourite with these two, but votes definitely for Sharma. With respect to Fawcett who ran well at VRTA, Sharma has shown early speed and winning form. Not sure what his new mark will be but he must be a chance over the shorter distance again.

Timothy Rosen 12.25m / Maddie Coates 12.5m (18 votes, 19%) - Rosen went down the highway and walked away a winner. Not sure he will want to win here, but watch for next week at Albury. Even with a pull for the multiple wins he has this season will have him in the mix for a final at Northcote. Will likely just miss out on the win but final for sure. Coates ran 12.05sec for the 100m recently, but Rosen ran 11.5sec so while Coates is a rising star and a legitimate chance of doing damage this season, the votes must be for Rosen.

FWIW - Ware, the time is ticking away for Ware to get a win and steal a metre for Stawell. If he does not win here, he will have a crack before Christmas and before the automatic lift drops. If he does win, he will focus on other distances through the season and come back at easter off a handy mark.

This is the first time we are seeing a number of athletes for the season, always interesting to see how they turn out. One of the favourites from last week would want to run a lot better after not breaking 13 sec.

Good luck, might see you there Wink
