That's bad luck. Athletics can be such a cruel sport sometimes. I don't know if it's backed up by science or anything but from a personal observation I've seen it happen a lot when athletes hit PBs soft tissue issues are usually lingering around the corner (hamstrings particularly!).

Baltimore Jack

Athletes entering into speeds not previously achieved heightens the risk of soft tissue injuries. It'a an occupational hazard.

Hubbaup

Sophia Power for me in the women's doesn't seem to be too badly handicapped compared to a few others and Mikayla Dunn for a bit of a roughy also well in at the handicaps and Should be big odds.

Queanbeyan Gift Men's FINAL
1 Aaron Stubbs 3.0m 12.14s
2 Stuart Rooke 9.25m 12.18s
3 Luke Stevens 4.0m 12.22s
4 Nathan McNab 10.50 12.34s
5 Steve Blacker 12.00m 12.41s
6 Jack Newman 7.25m 12.45s
7 Nathan Riali 6.0m 12.52s
8 Dale Lyons 12.57s

Got the first 3 OK. Missed on the rest.

Eschbach broke in the semi which prevented any chance of making the final.
Dotti didn't help by not getting started in his heat.
Foster seems a fair way off his best.
Surprised Brendan Matthews couldn't final off 6.50. He appears to be a few metres off his best.
Matt Hargreaves seems to be better suited for 300 to 550 atm.

Blacker was a big surprise as he normally runs off 13m plus.

In hindsight, McNab should have been in the top 8. Recently ran 11.33.

"Eschbach broke in the semi which prevented any chance of making the final."

laurent stewert broke in semi 1, not Eschbach

Parrello and Dotti both 'fell' out of the blocks. would have been close to a final, perrello ran 7.34 in the 70m.
Blacker finished 1.5m behind stubbs last week off 13.5m, so its no wander he finished 2.5m behind stubbs this week given the mark.

Thanks for that auspro.

I wasn't there of course. I asked a person who was there what happened with Tim Eschebach and the answer was he broke in the semi.

I guess I should have sought confirmation elsewhere.

Looking at the semi result - Eschebach has not run well. 12.72s off 7.25m on a good track? And he couldn't beat Backer who was coming back from 13m plus? Like Brendan Matthews, he appears to be way off his Stawell Gift shape.

In the 2015 Stawell semis it went -
Brendan Matthews 6.75m 12.37s (1st)
Tim Eschebach 6.75m 12.39s (1st)
Stuart Rooke 9.00m 12.48s (2nd)

Semi 1
Place Lane Name From Handicap Time
1st Black Stuart Rooke Abbotsford VIC 9.25 12.43s Q
2nd Brown Steven Blacker South Coogee NSW 12 12.71s Q
3rd Green Will Roberts Petersham NSW 9.5 12.72s
4th Blue Tim Eschebach Thornton NSW 7.25 12.72s
5th Red Brendan Matthews Palmerston ACT 6.5 12.73s
6th Pink Brady Lehmann Lavington NSW 11 12.88s
7th Yellow Benjamin Wylie yass NSW 9.5 13.20s
8th White Laurent Stewart Cronulla NSW 8.25 13.30s
