We start the season proper with a trip to Epping for the VRTA 200m Gift. Healthy entries, who are our picks?

Are we already starting to see the same voting pattern as last year...?

Surely with a starting target time of 21 sec flat Stevens mark would have to be an error then? Do we think this will be amended before he starts? It would be great to have a scratch marker in the Gift. What do people think?

Start time is 21.00 for grass so his AV times need converting to grass first.

I was waiting for some more votes. Have changes to the forum prevented guests from voting? It appears so. Let's look at the the vote getters anyway.

Luke Stevens 3m (3 votes - 20%) - Quality back marker who has shown he holds no fear running off tight marks (remember the 400m at Rye). Should find himself well and truly in this race having run sub 21 previously. Different race with people out in front but watch for Stevens to come flying home. Good chance.

Leigh Phelan 15m / Jimmie Gladman 16m (2 votes - 13%) - Leigh won two gift races last year and then showed he can compete over the longer distance by winning the Vets 300m at Stawell. Handy mark, but may find it just too tight. Jimmie has not really troubled the main event yet, still a work in progress. Votes probably for Phelan.

Tim Rosen 22m / Scott Rowsell 22m (5 votes - 33%) - Another chance for Rosen to make a final here. Unlucky not to win here last year and then also ran a good time at Maryborough. Has been pulled from the 24 he had at Maryborough (20.7 adjusted) and one could argue that he could have come back further. Looks to be in form judging by his first 300m at the HRV series but then went missing in the final. If he has improved he should make the final, I don't see him holding off Stevens though. Roswell always look primed to win but will find his mark too tight compared to some of the younger runners. Will win a gift soon, watch this space. The votes are likely for Rosen either with people thinking he is a chance or just waiting to see what is written about him each week. I will be nice for now.

There are a couple of other runners who may hold off Stevens, but they did not get the votes. I encourage you all to sign up to vote for the next race.
