Can someone tell me how Freddy Ovett is in the A 800m when in the B race there is a guy like Jesse Beadman who has run 1.51.37 which is around 3 seconds quicker then freddy who's pb is 1.54??!!

Beadman is born in 1993 so he is also a youngster so i don't see the reasoning...
Surely not because he is the son of Steve Ovett....

AQ Event last weekend.

Men 800 Meter Run
Section 1
1 944 Plummer, Adrian 20 GCV 1:51.87
2 1042 Botha, Werner 26 UNQ 1:52.73
3 1011 Berry, Lee 21 QE2 1:53.24
4 784 Barralet, Andrew 26 ASR 1:54.01
5 1046 Grantham, Jaryd 24 UNQ 1:54.14
6 716 Seth, Tim 22 UNQ 1:54.37
7 1029 Pearce, Jordan 20 UNQ 1:54.41
8 565 Eastwell, Luke 18 GCV 1:56.75
9 4337 Ovett, Freddy 17 VIC 1:58.18

I can only assume Freddy Ovett is in the Hunter TC A race as a pacemaker - they couldn't possibly justify the start any other way. Beadman who ran a season best of 1-51.63 in Sydney on 13/11/10 or David Bradney (2010 Best of 1-51.80) should definitely be in ahead of Ovett if it's based on merit.

you are right in that he shouldn't get a start in the A race. but he won't be pacemaking! he is running the full 800m...

doesn't seem fair for the other youngsters hey?

They can't even list Ovett's pb because they know it's not good enough for the A race, instead just writing "son of steve"

no one cares..

PREVIEWS as per ANSW Website:

http://www.nswathletics.org.au/news/index.cfm?fuseaction=NewsItem&NewsID=17243

MEN
100m EVENT PREVIEW:
Local athlete, Liam Gander is the favourite. Last season he ran his pb of 10.41 and has already clocked 10.43 this season. Commonwealth games relay athlete, Isaac Ntiamoah will provide excellent competition in his season debut. Other main competition will be from NSW State Champs silver medallist Tim Leathart and the in form rising Wollongong teenager star James Grimm.

200m EVENT PREVIEW:
Liam Gander lower his personal best three weeks ago ensuring that he will start favourite. His opposition will be a few athletes whose form are unknown. Joel Milburn will make his season debut in Newcastle and will be serious competition if he can match his personal best of 21.09 set last season. Tim Leathart could be a threat if her can repeat his 21.15 best and Steven Solomon also remains an unknown at 200m, capable of running very quick and significantly faster than his pb of 21.88.

400m EVENT PREVIEW:
Current Australian champion, Ben Offereins, should comfortably win, with Matt Lynch and Victorian Andrew Boudie his main opposition. The form of 45.69 runner, Dylan Grant is unknown as he has not raced for over two years.

800m EVENT PREVIEW:
Less than half a second separates the leading three contenders - Tristan Garrett, James Gurr and James Kaan. Only Gurr has raced this summer (a paced 1:49.35), so predictions are difficult. The only major 800 this summer was Zatopek, which was claimed by the returning to form Matt Hammond in 1:50.17, but expect him to also be in touch with the leaders.

3000m EVENT PREVIEW:
Summer form is best revealed by the Zatopek and WXC trial results. Collis Birmingham, who ran a 3:35.50 1500m last year and will make his marathon debut in April, is in top form after his excellent World XC trial win and will start favourite here. American Craig Miller, recently clocked a sub-4 minute mile and as a 7:50 3k athlete he is expected to provide the best competition for Birmingham. The recent form of Commonwealth Games 5k athlete and 7:47 3k runner, David McNeil, is not known, but he has the ability to mix it with the leaders. The form of Victorian Liam Adams is known, as he defeated Birmingham at Zatopek and was a good third in the cross country trial and looks ready to lower his 7:58.9 pb.

WOMEN
100m A EVENT PREVIEW:
Commonwealth Games representative, Melissa Breen, who has run 11.60 this summer, will be favoured ahead of local star Laura Whaler who is in good early season form clocking 11.73 in early January and a double victory at last week's country championships. Throw a blanket over the others as a number of athletes could place third.

200m EVENT PREVIEW:
East Maitland's Laura Whaler, is running well and is not expected to be challenged here. The form of others is mixed, but maybe the season's rising star Christine Wearne will step up.

400m EVENT PREVIEW:
One of the races of the meet and all the leading contenders have raced in the last two weeks. Looking at that recent form, there appears to be nothing between Tamsyn Lewis (53.5 recently), Jody Henry (53.04 recently and Olivia Tauro (52.98, pb in December). Sydney's Anneliese Rubie has also been running regularly lowering pbs over 100m and 200m and will be the clear threat to the leading three.

800m EVENT PREVIEW:
An interesting race awaits the crowd. Kelly Herington must start favourite after her personal best run of 2:04.2 last week in Melbourne. Sianne Toemoe and Caitlin Pincott have similar pbs, but have not run fast this summer with recent times of 2:09.92 and 4:27 (1500m) respectively. Selma Kajan, continues to return from injury, but the surprise could be Kelly Young. A former student at Hawaii Uni, she ran 2:05.01 indoors in 2005, but last week in Sydney ran 2:06.20.

3000m EVENT PREVIEW:
Favourite will be 1500m specialist Kaila McKnight who showed good recent form over a longer distance placing a competitive third in the World Cross Country trial. Bridey Delaney has also been in excellent early summer form, clocking a 4:17 1500m, while at their best Georgie Clarke and Emma Rilen would be competitive.
