This information was attached in the accompanying email;

  1. The Albury Wodonga Gift will now be run in December.
  2. Avondale Heights will NOT be conducted this season.  This unfortunate outcome is the result of a scheduling conflict between 2 meetings.  Given the restrictions that were presented to the League by the clubs involved, the VAL believes that there was no solution that suited all involved clubs.  The VAL’s decision to allocate Keilor with their requested date was based on factors including history, prize money, races and the benefits to athletes.  Unfortunately, this decision has seen the Tea Gardens Gift withdraw from the coming season.  We hope this to be only for this season and will work to replicate the 14-15 fixture following the 15-16 season.

Registration will be open in September.

Unfortunately no Avondale Heights means the prestigious Don Furness 70m will have to go into recess....hopefully, only for a year. Disappointing but that's the consequence of this meet not being accommodated for, in the VAL calendar.

Why would it have to go in to recess? Why couldn't it be run at another venue? It has been before. It would fit great into the program at a race like Albury or Wangaratta and would be a great incentive for athletes to make the trip.

For the record, Avondale Heights did have the option of going on Saturday 13th Feb. They would have been the premier meeting on that weekend ,with Trinity being on the Sunday. Avondale chose to pull out when they did not get their preferred option of the day after Stonnington.
