FAST you said Mel Breen is handicapped to run 13.52.
She has never run that quick before. Mel Breen has a 120 PB at Stawell of 13.8. That's what I go on.
If Dobbyn can run 13.3 off 11.5 last year, I think there's athletes who can run 13.7 off the big marks. They have Breen beaten.
Ela Nelson beats Breen off scratch over 200. I cant see Breen giving her 2.75 start over 120m

Don't disagree, Breen may not run the Stawell track as well as she runs the Canberra track but there are lots in that boat, her past Stawell performance are far from her best.

I have only taken PB's from 100m you may be right with Nelson, my analysis is based on basic 100m pb's, I do appreciate there are other factors (longer distance, grass, varying conditions) but in my opinion the Handicapper has place more emphasis on the subjective unknown factors then simple pb performances. It is not difficult to do with a simple spreadsheet.

But I don't think she will catch Hughes who has a PB of 12.33 and Blizzard with a PB of 12.28, Blizzard has have improved considerably with her 12.28 run at the Junior Nationals.

If amateur runners have been handicapped based on their PB's, then surely their handicaps must be adjusted. As stated above, some ran big PB's on the weekend.

If they declare their new pb their mark should be adjusted. If they do not declare a pb then they can be disqualified. Will they all mention their new pb's?

I think the VAL need to be transperant and explain their position regarding pb's from the weekend. If nothing is said or done, and one of those runners win, there is going to be an outcry.

Emails were sent earlier in the month to say any athlete who didn't submit a recent PB WILL be disqualified. Hopefully that is the case and there is no repeat of the Ballarat Women's fiasco

Does anyone have the list of revised handicaps for the Women's Stawell Gift following all the PB's ran last weekend?

Breen, Wittaker, Nelson, Coates etc all ran Pb's in the 200m and many PBs in the 100m.

Considering the top 3 are real athletes and compete in real races, can say goodbye to them making the final!

The Womens gift final field was a joke. Backmarker off 9.50 in the final. That should never happen in a classic Gift final. Handicapper should be fined for an Unacceptable Performance.Pulling girls for PB's at the nationals made him look a fool.
Well done to the 15 year old ODwyer kid for making it an exciting race. It looked like a couple of women vets were going to fight it out before the teenager upstaged them .

What would have been wrong with one of the best pro women runners of recent times in Anna Pasquali winning the gift? Stawell wanted a 14m limit. They can't have a limit to entice more runners and then only expect a backmarker to win. It is handicap racing people. It is why we have the interest in our sport that the Nationals doesn't. ( no disrespect to the Nationals ). It was a great race and I for one would have been happy to see a frontie win.

Couldn't agree more Sanchez.... cracking race regardless of the marks. And great to see the regular Val runners right in the mix.
