1 Will Johns Stawell Mark on Sat Mar 21, 2015 12:36 am

Frontie

He was last seen walking down the track to win trinity off 6.25m. He beat Luke Stevens at Vic State over 200m. I would feel hard done by if I was Stevens and had to concede more than 1.25m from a guy who beat me in a major final in the ammos.

I think you will find that he has slipped under the handicappers guard pretty good as he has a 21.20 windy but also had a 21.29 legal from the heats. He also beat a classy Andrew McCabe in the final who had run 21.1 earlier in the day. Beating Stevens and McCabe who are both inside 3m would surely warrant a massive pull back to inside 3.75m if Stevens is off 2.75m.

If he isn't inside 4.00m then I know who my Easter bunnie is!! He has done a great job of hiding himself so far. Can he pull the wool over the handicappers eyes for this one?? My mail says yes he can!

It's great to see that the VAL will have heaps of applicants for the handicap review panel and associated roles for next season - the integrity if the sport looks healthy with everyone sourcing the most update info on runners in the VAL

from another old man I think you would find stevens ran quickest 200 on day of title he did not win final ????? you figure , his time q for other races johns not so

with jack hale you would find him winning ,and place getters times questionable eg Tassie runs

You are right OldMan, many applicants Rolling Eyes , however, there are lots of ways to find out information and if WE are able to find it then there should not be any excuses for handicaps not to reflect this. I am pretty sure that the VAL has recently sent out a memo indicating disqualifications for not submitting times, I am sure Johns will not fall for that one.

With Stawell marks out on Monday, I am sure this site will go into meltdown, especially by those who have someone who is cherry ripe. Put the heat on someone else and get the odds out.

Good luck at Ringwood.

Johns has run PB over 100m and 200m and beaten backmarkers like Stevens Bedford Finegan Marr Caldow. He won a
a gift and the pull is descretion. I think because he is OGA his mark can be moved, so it will be interesting to see what he gets.

What does everyone think his pull should be? I'd say back to 3.75m

As for the comment regarding Stevens running faster then johns in qualifying, I'm pretty sure that you are actually smart enough to know that people generally don't run all out until the final. Who ever wins the final gets the nod. In that case and the case last year, johns got the nod. This year it was over Stevens. You can't dispute he beat Stevens at Vic state!

yep he was first in seudo final

stevens is ranked 20.98

johns 21.29 on best times that day as according to shamatuer ratings

was their any money to be won on day????

runners are to eager to give themselves up with meaningless runs in shamatues

as far as other runners johns has beaten what is their agenda caldow about 1 to 2

wins qld off about 5 1.25 last run sa ,,the list is endless of form disceptions

metres in gift ,johns winning trinity should he go further back behind all that he has beaten

ps I think johns can win gift but will be closely watched by runners he has finished in

Shamateurs? What an idiotic view. Silly Usain Bolt displaying his true form. Should've held back and won Stawell.
It's attitudes like this that hold the sport back. There is well and truly a place for both amateur and professional running and both need to work together to grow the sport as a whole. People like you will be the death of the sport with that attitude.

If anything amateur running is the purer form. How can you possibly call them meaningless runs. But as I said, there is a place for both to co exist and feed off each other

Bazaap -

The entire Pro V Amo's arguement is a complete waste of time and it's disappointing people still post negative comments about either side.

Athletics needs growth in any form of the sport so knocking either format adds absolutely no value to that common goal whatsoever.

Pretty disgraceful post regarding comparing the integrity of aths vic to pros and the money on offer.

Many athletes get a thrill out of a personal best time or competing with the best in the state. No need to downgrade them, maybe instead go and support them.

Blokes like Rowey who equal national records are inspirations in modern athletics to many while others get a kick out of winning a handicapped race.

Money in the pros is an added bonus and really doesn't set anyone up for life ! Enjoy the events for what they are and understand it's impossible in this sport to have a perfect handicapping system.

Once again Will Johns beats Luke Stevens over 200m tonight here! Does this not count doing it a 2nd time within a month?

Good on will johns if he informs the handicappers of his form and is able to keep that mark. To identify the bloke is pretty dodgy considering everything else which goes on all year around cough* handbrakes * sign ... And many other things which I don't waste Breath on !

Inevitably the winner will come from someone with the best form off the best mark. ...

Not to mention ....You need a little angel looking over you and a little luck to be a stawell champion !!!

One last comment with regards to "Meaningless runs in amateurs" how about "donations to the Val?"

It's far from a professional league with sub standard structures and standards.

tonight at albert park mens 200 : will johns 21.99
luke stevens 22.01
not sure what happened here cos both times are extremely slow for these guys

mens 100 : luke stevens 10.78
will johns 10.98

I've said before I really like stevens but he tends to like to run in everything and it seems to be to his detriment most times
but I feel he is more a 200-400 runner than a 100-120 runner
still if his mark suits then he's right in it

last nights 200 m final, methinks that all of the travelling for athletes has had a detrimental effect on their ability to perform at their peak ,hopefully good nights rest will help any running today,

I now have crossed johns and stevens off winning list Stawell and will lay to lose with betfair when market opens Razz Shocked Sad

at least wait for the handicaps to be released tomorrow mate

luke stevens is an incredibly durable kid and would assume johns similar?

we can obviously get better idea when we know what marks they are off

no need to wait for marks I would estimate that marks would be luke 2.5 will 5 hale 1.5

any marks wont be that relevant as one wise person said depends how they run on day

How would you feel getting beat by will johns 2 weeks prior and having to give him 2.5m start??? I hope he gets 5m. Will be running to the tab for sure!

Frontie, this thread is borderline in terms of being offensive. I've left it because, it makes you look a bit silly, and if anything, you might be doing Will Johs a favour. Handicappers don't like anonymous inflammatory comments targeting individuals. Hopefully Will Johns gets a lift out of it.

Will Johns has run enough in the VAL to earn himself a competitive mark. The main reason why Luke Stevens gives Johns a start is that Luke has two major Gift wins at Albury & Keilor. The penalties incurred reflect the prize money won. Johns has yet to win a major Gift hence he hasn't been penalised to the same level.

Will Johns is pretty much exposed and does not appear to be competing specifically with Stawell in mind. I dare say there are several athletes who have put their cue in the rack, waiting for Easter. History shows the winner generally comes from someone specifically set for the race.
