Run4Kids and IRONMAN events 2015
The IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship Melbourne and Herald Sun / CityLink Run for the Kids events are taking place in Melbourne on Sunday 22 March, 2015.

Major road closures will apply from Saturday 21 March for these events and VicRoads encourages drivers to plan your trip in advance before your travel to avoid delays.

The following major roads will be affected:

  • CityLink

    Domain Tunnel (CityLink westbound) will be closed from 9pm Saturday 21 March to 12pm Sunday 22 March for routine maintenance and the Run for the Kids event
    Bolte Bridge will be closed northbound / airport bound between the Westgate Freeway and Footscray Road as well as the on-ramps from Footscray Road from 7.30am to 12.45pm, Sunday 22 March for the Run for the Kids event.

  • EastLink
    EastLink tunnels will be closed for routine maintenance 8.00pm Saturday 21 March to 7.00am Sunday 22 March
    EastLink (southbound) and Frankston Freeway (southbound) will be closed between Springvale Road and Dandenong Road from 4.00am to 8.00pm Sunday 22 March for the IRONMAN event.


Major arterials

  • Westgate Freeway
    Westgate Freeway will be closed westbound between the Domain Tunnel and Bolte Bridge from 6.30am to 12.00pm Sunday 22 March for the Run for the Kids event



  • Nepean Highway
    northbound will be closed between Frankston and Mordialloc from 6.00am to 8.00pm Sunday 22 March for the Ironman event.



  • Eastern Freeway
    Eastern Freeway eastbound up to two lanes will be closed between Middleborough Road and Springvale Road from 4:00 am to 8:00 pm Sunday 22 March for the IRONMAN event.
    Please be advised that local roads in the Melbourne CBD (Run for the Kids), outer eastern suburbs, Frankston and St. Kilda area (IRONMAN) will also be affected.


Getting around Melbourne


  • West to East
    Westgate Freeway to Monash Freeway
    Drivers will remain largely unaffected if travelling eastbound from the Westgate Freeway to the Monash Freeway.



  • East to West
    Monash Freeway to Westgate Freeway
    From the Monash Freeway, drivers are advised to exit at Toorak Road and access the Westgate Freeway from the Kings Way entry ramp and continue to westbound toward the Westgate Bridge.
