Hitman17

Meet of the year so far IMO (just ahead of Albury which was a cracker as well) Congratulations to Floater and the commitee for putting together such a great gift over the weekend.

Hitman - I don't know who you are as I always post under my name. I cant' compare other Vic meets this year but I have been to one or two Vic meetins over the last 24 years. I agree that Ballarat 2015 was one of the best. When people like Greg Whitecross and the committee put the effort in - people who organize their home town meetings can see the effort that goes in. To the average punter/Athlete who just turns up to compete or watch ( nothing wrong with that BTW) it's all smooth sailing on the day or night - to the organizer/s who look like smooth ducks on the surface with a lot of paddling under the water it's the 1% ers that challenge you from sponsors forgetting to arrive on time for Sash presentations to Oval surfaces. At Ballarat 2015 it was a case of great new surface, Christine Wearne and Jack Hale and promoting our sport and great racing. SA coaches and Athletes were made to fell welcome and we were all pleased to see our friend Mark Hipworth salute the judge after some medical challenges over the last few years. Mark took the time from his large squad commitments to seek out all his long term SA coaches and officials in the Grandstand, to celebrate his win and we all took a moment to reflect on the recent loss of Peter Venables one of our SA colleagues who passed away last week - moments like that make you realize  the life long friendships that we hold dear in
pro-Running whilst trying to get the next win.
Great job Ballarat committee - we will be back next year.

Well said John LeRay- best post I've read on Protrack this summer. Great attitude.

Well done Hippy on winning the 1600, 55yo and still going strong.

Be interested to know if Mark gets the trainers prize for training the winner of the mile?

NAPs
Ballarat 120m Gift
Jason Bailey,
Peter O’Dwyer,
Ryan McNamarra,
Peter Dudkiewicz,
Luke Stevens,
Andrew Boudrie,
Liam Procaccino,
Brad Schutz,
Nathan Dixon.

Is that all? Some lucky lads out there.

Can't believe there were none in the 800. Were the stewards off for a toilet break during the 8's?

Can't believe old POD copped a NAP.

Anyway name and shame airtight! I didn't see the 8s who are we talking?

Surely 95% of the field went for the win and ran as hard as they could given there are only two quality 8s left - Bendigo and Stawell

Just saw a few who worked a lot harder in the last 200 than the first lap. One especially, lost ground in the first lap, was easily passed then overtook them in the run home. Looked like he could have gone another lap. Names would open up a Pandora's box. So keep em to me Self!

Well it couldn't of been Reed (winner), Alexander was never passed), Clayton (only passed by Alexander at the line, grant or collier (faded to the line).. So that leaves nitshke, cayzer and haigh.
Guess there's your names boys and girls.

I'm not completely up to speed on how the handicaps work but I thought you couldn't get a lift if you made a group 1 final so what difference does it make if they get an NAP or not? Or did you mean people from the heat runs?

What its good to see if the stewards issuing NAPs to people from heats/semis who haven't run up to scratch rather than just picking people in finals who have lost time.

Bendigo and Stawell are the big 800's in VAL running. If people think everyone was having a crack in the 800 at Ballarat they are living in pixieland. I've also got a bridge shaped like a coathanger I'd like to sell ya. Comes with free ice and sand.
I won't mention names but expect significant improvement from one of the also rans from Ballarat at Easter. It sticks out like canine testes.

The VAL website lists the Ballarat 800m as a Group 2 event. Therefore, ticks a plenty for everyone but the Top3.

Furthermore, surely the integrity of pro runners is such that no athlete would dare not put in 100% effort week-in and week-out. Say it ain't so Joe.

Yes Dizzy......, athletes may be putting in 100% effort..........Or thinking they are.........
But like a wise man called Guru Bob once said - Not all 100% Efforts are Equal.

Maybe your "also ran" from Ballarat is just coming good and will win either Keilor or Avondale 800m.
Both Stawell and Bendigo will be won from a pool of 3 athletes that showed "no" kick on at Ballarat whatsoever. In fact 2 of the athletes did not make the final at Ballarat.
