Moving further up the highway this week. Who are our chances?

Only 49 votes so far, maybe the result of the short week. There are some clear favourites from the polling. Lets take a look.

Daniel Steinhauser 8.25m / Rhys Parkinson 8.5m (10 votes) - Good voting here, Steinhauser has been looking alright for most of the season and may have set himself for the three weeks of Albury, Ballarat and Keilor and why not when there are a lot of people who would love to pick up one of these gifts. 8.25m is quite handy for him now. Parkinson has not shown the same form as when he won everything including the egg and spoon race a couple of years ago. I predict that most of the votes are for Steinhauser (if not all of them) and that Rhys will hit the ground running next season.

Nathan McNab 8.75m / Brady Lehmann 9m (8 votes) - Another two runners with very handy marks. If either go missing, place it in the memory bank. McNab won the 70m at Wangaratta as most predicted when they saw his mark. He can move alright and may be testing the waters. Lehmann is another like Steinhauser who could do some damage over the next few weeks, if not see if his fluffy tail pokes out at some stage.

Paul Hughes 14m / Craig Mair 14m (6 votes) - Both handy veteran athletes who deserve votes for different gifts this year. I would think that Mair is better placed to final here than Hughes based on his performance in the 70m at St Albans. If he can turn up and hold together (like lots of veteran athletes) he is a real shot at the final. Hughes may be out of his depth in a field where the pace is on. He could pick up something else later in the year though.

A large spread of speculative votes for Brittain, Lyons, Spencer, Harvey, Eddy, Dunbar, Dobric and Moss probably indicate that people are seeing some athletes look good in different races. Luke Stevens is an interesting one here. Most agree that his 400m at Rye was something else and judging on the times and the reports of his ease at winning he would seem to have improved once again. It is possible that he could get up here or at least make the final. Look out if he can hold some form for any of the major gifts this season. Gill-Vallance off 12m is also starting to move out into the handy section of the field. Has won off good marks in the 70m and will feature at some stage on the gift scene.

Good luck

The backmarkers can chase all day long, but they won't get to Mair!

Have to disagree Sprintstar I can't see the old legs of Mair holding off a few of these. Brady Lehmann for mine.

Hubbaup, you weren't all wrong as Brady Lehmann did take home 2 sashes in Albury just not the 120m, the 70m BM and 400m...great tipping...

Convert someones good 70 form per metre into 120 form and you can often find the winner

Lehmann is in some good hands coaching wise. Great effort to pick up 2 in a day. Plenty more to come I reckon
