The junior handicapper is doing a great job this year - although there must be a query over U17 400 girls. How can a sub 59 sec runner quicker than the scratch runner, and rest of the field, be off 22 ? Must be an administrative error somewhere?

Keenan gets the lift because that race was 3 years ago. the handicapper doesn't need him to run in SA to see where he is at. He can look at the vic results. This is something the VAL should do for SA runners from time to time as well.

Definitely an error.  My spreadsheet has it as 12m.

Spiderman...........Try complaining about your mark in Vic and you get told ,WE WANT TO SEE YOU RUN OFF THAT MARK FIRST BEFORE WE WILL LOOK AT ALTERING IT.
Real slap in the face for the SA runners who havent had their marks moved out for years despite putting money in the SAAL coffers every week.

Also can you explain how the backmarker received a 2m lift from last season despite making the final in 2014.He ran 47.26 at interclub recently so is in form so what hope have the SA runners who didnt make the final last season got, of going further by staying on the same marks.Surely if someone who made the final last season and is in pretty good shape gets a 2m lift surely some others are desrving as well

I'm just saying the way SAAL handicap interstate runners is encouraging but unfortunately we don't get the same favours from the VAL

I didn't particularly care about Watkins' lift but I agree with you about Watkins, he shouldn't have received a lift from last season. Handicap running is designed so everyone should be finishing at the same time. Clearly Watkins would beat half the field off his last years mark so yes it's unfair especially if there is anyone that ran last year and are off the same mark this year.

I don't think he can win anyway. Too many runners between 20-30 that will be hard to get too and then go pass. For Watkins to win he would have to run like Tippens did the year he won it

Watkins wont have to run like Tippens, I think Stenson will make the final either as a winner of a heat or one of the next two fastest.
If Watkins had have been off 4m  NO CHANCE but off 6m I can see him using his speed to get up on Stensons back and have a cushy ride home as Stenson makes the running out wide trying to run down either Keenan or Darnall.

I see what your saying whispers it is unfair for people who haven't got a lift and all but I still don't think he will win.
Your saying it like he is just going to stroll up behind stenson and sit on him. I can't see stenson letting it be that easy.

Guys Rothe has to be up there, I think he will be top 3. Also Stangewitz is on good circle form. Schultz is my dark horse! The fact that Watkins has to go around the field will probably prevent him from winning. Would be good to watch though if he did!

Watkins has ran 47.96 off 4m at Camden so circling the field with 2m more should be well within his sights.
Only thing that could hold him up a bit is if someone is leaning over the fence too far and he gets hit in the head with hamburger with the lot.Razz Razz

Women
1. Katherine Robb (21)- pulled 1m
2. Yasmin Openshaw (43)- 1 m lift(won Camden in 2013)
3. Lucy Mayo (30) - 2m lift despite winning Marion and Hectorville 300m

I may be new at this and ProTrack but those lifts seem very strange. Could that also be an admin error?

Obviously the handicapper hasnt looked at the Vic results .
Check out Northcote..........35m.........H.47.754 ....F.47.871

Certainly doesnt need the extra 2m to be competable.

coming in with good form. Hope he whoops everyone! Worry about what you can control. The fact that you are worried about him proves he already has you beat!

Heat 1: Ezard (34.5 off 23 stalbans jan16 300 into a howling gale, 47.7 off 28 stawell backmarkers) to beat Stangewitz (35.1 off 17 marion 300 on a dog track). Both make final. Atkins off 20 PB 50.66 in early 2014 worth watching)
Heat 2: Depends on how its run. Think Sanderson-Milera camdeb 2014). Dartnall final of 300m Marion and 46.9 Stawell backmarkers in 2014 off 33 gives him the sit in the race behind Schutz and the edge
Heat 3: Giralamo 36m in good form and good first heat runner. Ran 46.8 Stawell runner up frontmarkers off 43m. Long-Scaffidi 49.45 400m SANTOS Jan15 suggesting he will fall just short. Verrall (35.35 off 15m StAlbans Jan16). They wil need to go quick to get Giralamo. Runner-up will make probably make final
Heat 4: Interesting heat with no recent long sprint form from Gross or Khudoshin. Keenan 35.2 off 27m StAlbans Jan16. Has 37m. I think the other victorian a better chance. Gross to win. Fast heat.
Heat 5: Rothe (34.9 off 20m Marion 300m Jan8 winner) from Stenson (48.7 SANTOS Jan19 1 sec off PB suggesting 800m training taking its toll). Russell young athlete with a good 400m PB.
Heat 6: Watkins in good form. (47.26 SANTOS Jan19) Dawkins will make him work hard. Giles unknown. If he can get into final 48.5 will have a chance if has to go harder will make it difficult
Top 3: Ezard, Dartnall, Watkins

Not bad Chopper, but you have got heat 2 way off. Sanderson-Milera will blow up like he did last year. and thats if he runs. Form line says Bulabek & Schutz will be up to their neck in this. Schutz 30m will just sit on Dartnall 32m and will be too tough for him in the straight. Bulabek will come over the top and will stride past them. Last 50, one of his strides will be worth 3 of Schutz/Dartnall.
MM Tips
H1 Stangwitz/Ezard
H2 Bulabek/Schutz
H3 Long-Scafidi/Girolamo or Verrall
H4 Keenan/Khudoshin
H5 Russell/Rothe or Stenson
H6 Killmier/C Watkins

Hey Murphy

Naming approx 33% of the whole nominations I think you have it pretty well covered.

Who the fuck is Murphy?

If you're referring to me Whipper, tongue then this is for you.
I didn't think I'd have to explain it but seems some are slower than others. Painfully obvious the first named is my pick for 1st, second named is my pick for 2nd. Where there's an or I found it hard to split 2nd and 3rd and with two fastest non-winners going through, seemed a logical step.

I know its not the feature event but i just noticed that Tjimarri got pulled .5m in the 120m for winning at the last meet. He didn't even pick up great prize money! WTF! When you compare it to other pulls (Gross back 1m after winning $3000 at the bay), he has been screwed over!

Going by the poll, that first heat is going to be a cracker.
Two of the top picks. S Ezard v J Stangewitz. Shane is running well over 4's. Be hard for Stangewitz to get past.

Is there a Calcutta on the Camden heats?

Any guess what the best price will be?

Wouldn't mind a stake in one of the VIC runners' heats.

.5 Seems to be the Norm.
Quick look through results on SAAL website shows the Henley and Marion winners both got .5 as well.
I guess its a matter of how long it takes to get that .5 back ,some seem to get it back quicker than others Wink

cant see how any one could complain about Clay Watkins getting a small lift, given his loyalty to SAAL over many years, he has been the dominant 400m runner in this state for a decade, the fastest over the distance in the state and yet, has never won this event, arguably the most prestigious. Good luck Clay, wou deserve it. Just wish my team mate Josh Dawkins didn't draw his heat! Not to mention my son, who is running for the experience this year. Great thrill for him

Agree with your comments about Clay being a great guy but can't find the reference in the SAAL handbook about 'loyalty' being a legitimate criteria for a lift. Can you let me know what page it is on?

It doesn't need to be in any rule book, its common sense, and just my opinion. Cheers
