1 Large 800 metre heat numbers. on Mon Dec 15, 2014 3:32 pm

Downesy

From a VRTA representation:- there was an issue raised by athletes from the Northcote Gift meeting of large heat numbers in the 800 metre heats. This concern of the runners' (whom the VRTA represent) was brought to the attention of the VAL board by the VRTA, at a board meeting last Monday night.

The maximum number of possible competitors in an 800 metre heat was increased by the board pre season, from 18 to 24, and the VRTA felt that this posed an unnecessary risk to to the safety and welfare of athletes in these races. This safety concern was taken to the board, and the decision was made to reduce the maximum number of athletes in open 800 metre races back to 18.

Reiterated from the VRTA committee, that if athletes do have any race day issues, they should be encouraged to come to the VRTA representatives, who in turn can then bring these issues to the attention of the VAL board. The current representatives are:- Shane McKenzie, Katie Moore, John Henry, Rick Dunbar, Celia Cosgriff, Todd Ireland, Lachlan Taylor, Matthew McDonough and Arron Downes.

Cheers, Downesy.
