Flinders Junior Sprints - U/14's 70m & U/17's 200m

After reviewing the Henley results there were a few areas I was happy with and a few I need to work on.

I was happy that no-one emerged as a clear cut favourite after the Under 17's 120m heats. The five fastest heat times were between 13.14 and 13.20.

There wasn't much between the first three in the final and in my view the three most improved athletes finished in the top three spots.

The significant tail wind made the net time irrelevant. Plus the fact many of the lads ran a lot faster than anticipated.

I set a net time of 13.8 because I thought that's the time Calern Adams was capable of running off scratch. Calern ran 13.69 off scratch so given the strong following breeze, the time was about right.

The areas that need to be worked on:
Of the 12 semi finalists - the top 8 fastest were all male. So adjustments need to made to ensure more girls are hitting times that make them competitive.

The fact is a few runners ran a lot better than anticipated which pushed the best times in to the low 13's. So adjustments will be made to get the race back to around the 13.6 range. The closer to 13.6 I can make it the less need to push out the marks of others.

So looking to Flinders - the girls marks have been lifted in line with the results of Henley. Not majorly, but certainly with the idea of getting a few girls into the semis and chances to make the final.

Under 17's 200m limit is 40m and net time is 23.8secs.

Just for the record
Last year there were 48 entries for the U/17's 200m.
21 male
27 female

15 Scratched
6 male
9 female

33 started
15 males started
18 female

Although there were more girls entered - it was still an all male final.

200m Under 17 - Final:
Position Name Colour Mark Time
1 Joshua Biggs Black 27.00m 21.16 21.16
2 Ben Syrus Blue 18.00m 21.37 21.37
3 Kyle Roberts Green 22.00m 21.45 21.45
4 Ryan Atkins Red 17.00m 21.5 21.5
5 Bradley Harvey White 17.00m 21.78 21.78
6 Joshua Stangroome Yellow 21.00m 21.96 21.96

Under 14's 70m.
Last year there were 5 girls and one boy in the final, which reflected the fact only two boys actually started in the heats.

At this stage I have again been conscious of the fact that the girls need a little bit more to make them competitive so the marks reflect that.

The list of athletes in likely handicap order is as follows:

1 Hamish Petherick
2 Casey Buchanan
3 Xavier Robins
4 Cooper Condelli
5 Anthony De Ruvo
6 Nathaniel Drummond
7 Molly Farmer

13 Heather May
14 Caitlin Stallan
15 Madi Blight
16 Zali Turner
17 Alexis McDougall
18 Stephanie Bevan

I'm still doing the Under 17's 200m and should be able to publish a similar list by  Thursday.
