I was in Melbourne for a few days last week and on Saturday dropped into the old Northcote Football Ground to watch Greensborough play Northcote Park.

I haven't been there since the days when the Northcote Gift was actually conducted in Northcote.

Ground was in pretty good condition for a June weekend in Melbourne. Pity the Northcote Gift isn't still run there.

I can only assume some problem emerged with the Northcote Gift committee trying to access the venue and were forced to look elsewhere.

As an aside, I went in to the rooms at half time and saw the premiership photos adorning the wall. In 2001 & 2002 a bloke named Glenn Crawford played in Northcote Park's premiership teams.

Also Dave Robertson (Keilor Gift winner) captain/coached the 1994 NP premiership team.

PS: Probably the coldest day I've spent watching a footy match for a long while....bloody freezing although standing on the hill drinking VB wasn't the smartest move!

"VB" Youngie, I think you need to go up market or change footy teams.

Reminds me of a joke

A drunk is driving through the city and his car is weaving all over the road.

Eventually a cop pulls him over.

"Did you know," says the cop, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"

"Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."
