Don't want the season to end, feel like I'm just getting into it.

Pity no semis in ol fellas 200m, makes the heats so cut throat.

I'm tipping Jones, really well marked comparatively, if he's in from the one to beat. Haven't seen him since the Bay where he was very unlucky and ran brilliantly. Cassidy and White for podiums, both in form runners and well marked. Depends on heat draws so much - I think Stokesy is right to have so many chances. Going to be very close with in form runners getting pulls. Think it will be just a bit too hard for me off 20m, but will certainly be giving my all.
Finalists:  Miller, Nitschke and Grimwade to join Cassidy, White and Jones. No surprise if Flesfader makes it through.

Sorry Stokesy, I think you need a few more metres to pull this one off, avoid the holes mate, that will help, and try finding a matching pair of socks. I think "go Trudy go" (Schrapel) will find her handicap hard, even though running superbly. I would have tipped Wilczek however I am told that he wont run.

Also have Saliu, Cassidy, Nitcshke, Miller, Martin, Jones, Flesfader and myself all entered into 70 open - Go old timers! Cassidy the obvious man off 12.25m, and of course the Bay Sheff winner Dan Flesfader, could the old fellas sweep the podium? Cassidy, Flesfader, Miller.

Not sure how I rate a mention? It will be my first run since Marion and may well be my last for a year or 2 or more??? Thinking my body and mind need a break from this and give something else a go. Interestingly last year at Hectorville I was getting the vibe from Leon's body language that he was itching to have a run. Just over 12 months later and here he is!

Two of my runners scratched today Juddy, my other runner ran 3rd, .
I think McCann has found running against the bigger bodies today and long season all against him.
Definately an athlete to watch in the future but the length of the season was well and truly showing today.

Kimye

Go to youtube, search U20 mens 3000m zatopek 2013.

I suggest you watch that one whispers, shows McCann isnt scared of the bigger bodies. Also, he took care of both Hyde and Stevens in the state 1500m champs a few weeks back. He obviously just had an off race yesterday.

Has he got faster PB's than you Whispers?

With PBs of 3.57 and 8.27 for a lad turning 17 this year, McCann is a quality junior who I'm sure has an exciting future ahead of him. Looking at the runners handicapped around him, I've no doubt his SAAL 1600 mark of 135 is appropriate and I'm sure as he continues to improve and win, he will work his way back in the marks.

What it does show is the vast difference in the distance handicaps between the VAL and the SAAL that is often not recognized by coaches, athletes and handicappers alike. In the VAL the 1600 ceiling time for the entire field is 4.02 and after adjusting for grass, the maximum 1600 handicap for an athlete with a 3.57 PB is 95. This is based on the best grass tracks such as Stawell, which would be 2 seconds a lap quicker than Bay. At the start of each season the VAL field is then brought back to 4.07.

This really highlights the need for a national approach to handicaps across the different states so handicap are more readily transferrable. Without doubt the difference in the distance handicaps between the two leagues would be around 40 in the 1600, 20 in the 800 and 10 in the 550. The sprint handicaps , on the other hand, are very much similar between the SAAL and the VAL and could nearly be directly transferrable under a national approach.

Kimye

VAL certainly one up on SAAL having people run further than 1500m for a mile. Helps the backmarkers thas for sure

Will McCann was pulled back to 110m following his PB. He did not run off 135m.
I think the result of the Camden mile suggests that there is a difference between the VAL and SAAL marks but not necessarily in favour of SA.

I didn't raise this to stir the pot or create another Vic v SA argument as its not about that. I'm really just trying to raise some discussion in regards to a more national approach to handicapping that can benefit all.

Just for the record, Marantelli won Camden off 80 and runs off 20 in the VAL after winning Rye off 40. Thiele, listed in the above results runs off 100 in the VAL.
