All other athletes are on 4 or less points, but are not out of the hunt for making the top 16. Selection is for the top 16 point scorers. If there is more than one athlete on the same points, then the selection will be based on their best performance. If they are the same, then the second best performance, third best etc i.e., count back. If there is still no split, then the fastest individual RAW time from the official results will be used.

And for those interested in the U20 800m rankings, I have collated the points to be identical to that used for the 120m events. There are 2 athletes that are a standout across BOTH distances, proving to be very versatile and adaptable athletes.

Well done VRTA (Shane) on the U20 initiative this season, have been extremely well participated, forging a path and direction for VAL stars of the future!

Speaking of which BGG or CN could be the next AC of VAL ranks, exciting young talents!

Cheers MTR,

There have been a total of 154 U20 athletes accrue points across both the 120m & 800m. There are a few that competed in both, those numbers are the future of our sport. The VAL has been a great support of the U17 and 800m events too. Although they haven't been a financial windfall on those particular events, they have been underpinning the increase in entry & participation across each carnival. Put simply, the underage events have increased entry numbers where they have been hosted.

The goal next season is to increase participation further to ensure the financial sustainability of the junior events, which in turn invests in the future of our sport by keeping the youth engaged with athletics. There is a massive amount of junior athletes around the state. We just need to engage with them and demonstrate that we are not a rival code of athletics, but a complimentary code.

All other athletes will be emergencies in order of ranking. For those on same points, there will be a count back based on best performance (highest race result). E.g. If an athlete withdraws due to injury, then based on results, Ryan McNamara will be the next athlete in, due to the win at Albury-Wodonga being a higher result than Blake Bailey's 2nd place at Rye.

If you think I have missed a result, please double check and notify me via email; shane@shanemckenzie.com and I will cross check the results against the VAL's results as posted on the VAL Website.
