Bay Sheffield stars line up for Hunter Track Classic

This Saturday the 5th edition of the Hunter Track Classic will take place in Newcastle.

Among the athletes competing are five athletes who ran well at the Bay Sheffield carnival including three who took home sashes.

In the women's 100m and 200m, the 120m Backmarker's winner Christine Wearne will compete against 2011 Women's Bay Sheffield winner Kendra Hubbard. Wearne  (1.75m) won the Women's Backmarkers in 14.60sec with Hubbard (1.75m) 4th in 14.78sec. Both Wearne & Hubbard were not far away in their respective Women's Bay Sheff semi finals.

Last Saturday Wearne 26, demonstrated she is in career best shape when she recorded 11.84secs in Sydney. Hubbard ran her PB of 11.88secs in April last year.

Victorian teenager Hana Basic who ran at Rye last weekend is also in the Women's 100m & 200m fields.

Tasmanian Abbey de la Motte who was 3rd in the Women's Burnie Gift on New Year's day will contest the Women's 400m against (2013) sub 53sec girls Caitlin Sargent (52.16) & Anneliese Rubie (52.61).

Bay Sheff Women's 550m Runner-up Alice Platten who was unlucky not to win at the Bay after a massive effort off the back mark, contests the Women's 800m.

The 2013 Bay Sheffield winner Ben Mispelhorn is among the entrants for the 100m. At this stage it is unsure whether he will be in the
A or the B race.

And in the Men's 800m, Bay Sheff 800m winner Bryce Watkins will be seeking to become the first SA athlete since James Boden to run sub 1-50.
