Had a phone call tonight that tells me the big bloke off 115 may give Miller something to catch.

Took some pretty big scalps back in 2002 on Adelaide oval so its not quite going to be back to back.

Some of the scalps taken back then were Richard Williams,Mark Barnett,Mark Hipworth,John Leray,Bruce Mesley,Frank McHugh,Jackie Chehade, and Micky Buckler

With 25 metres more and 11 years later he will lead everyone a merry chase.

All the best Floater but I think at some stage you will hear the footsteps of Miller.

Miller seems all the rage in the 550 but I'm tipping that they vics will once again dominate as they have in previous years. Yorke is absolutely flying and looks the one. Is a huge chance in the open 550 as well. Craig Lancaster is lean, fit and has the right mark. Will be stalking Whitex all the way. My three in no particular order are Yorke, Whitex and Lancaster.

120m. Darren Arthur doesn't cross he border unless he has a legitimate chance. Made the final last year but fluffed the Stuart. Should be another vic winner for the veterans.

Good call Hitman. No SA athlete can beat Darren Arthur on those marks. He's about as good as Wilczek but has 4m more.

The 120m over35s at the Bay - the invaders are very confident :

"Shane Ezard to gobble them all up....."

"No SA athlete can beat Darren Arthur on those marks ..."

"Darren Arthur doesn't cross he border unless he has a legitimate chance. Made the final last year but fluffed the Stuart. Should be another vic winner for the veterans. "
(Stokesy's Translation best guess is Stuart = start.)

"Yorke is absolutely flying"

Plus last year's winner Glenn Ross is back.

Local hopes lie with the much improved David Miller, a finalist last year and maybe 5 metres plus faster this season after a massive winter of hard training.

Also the cool calm Peter Biggs is in the mix.

My number three Team Townley tip is the dynamic determined front marker Sue Turner.

My number two Team Townley tip is the totally in form Michael "Killer" Cassidy who won two sashes at the PreBay.

My number one Team Townley tip is the man who made the emphatic final run in that old video that was on Protrack a few weeks ago, where the South Aussies creamed the rest in record time ...
the man who won a 200m sash at Stawell at some time during the last millennium ...
with an ancient PB that would win the SA 100m champs easily nowadays ...
returning to competition after a long long break "feeding in a good paddock" as GT observed a few years ago, before James began losing some of that extra weight ...
James Noblet for the sash.

I would like to pass on a huge congratulations to Michael. A very deserving winner, and to Sue for making the podium. It was great for an SA athlete to win the event and for five of the six finalists to be from SA,  - well done to all Over 35 athletes - commiserations to David Miller who has been starring all season but didnt have his best day today - hope he bounces back tomorrow in the 550.

I also thought Trudy Schrapel was outstanding - was so pleased she was a finalist, as well as Ross Nitschke - the fastest Over 35er we have - he was a long way back.

Special mention to Andrew Buttery for recovering from breaking in his heat to regroup and still win his heat - outstanding I think - Andrew I wish I had the same character in the final!

Also Steve Jones was desperately unlucky not to make a semi - ran fantastic in the hardest heat on the card.

A win for SA athletics

Thanks Biggsy for your fine words and thanks Paul for the quality action video

I did a low quality atmospheric video from the rotunda ..

Also I took a bunch of happy snaps

mainly atmospheric with a bit of action ...
(not in close like Greg Denehy the master of action photography)

featuring a good action shot of the final turn of the 800m ...

and a portrait of the legend Brian Hart

and a fine pic of cool calm Biggsy before the over35s 120m final ...

Congrats to Michael Cassidy for a fine win. And to Sue Turner for making the podium.

And big big thanks to James Noblet for delivering a phenomenally fast heat win to make my predictions look really good ...

But James had to withdraw from the semi due to having pulled or strained a muscle in his leg ... rats.

What a comeback James, well done.

And I was off home sulking all afternoon, trying my best to recover emotionally from a very disappointing result in my heat, the first of the day.

So I missed the semi final action.

But I returned in time to see Michael's victory and get in some photography therapy.

Facebook recently threw up a snap of the car park at the end of Anzac Highway in the 1970s, when the BlueCar was a new car.

I lived at the Bay through primary and high school (blissfully unaware of the Bay Sheff), so I can recall how the place was in the old days.

The impact of the shadows is huge in the afternoons and there is a wind tunnel now between the high buildings.

But the Norfolk Island Pines are taller and the Rotunda now has a ferris wheel as a visual companion.

Progress?

hey c.judd, as I am often told, you can't win them all.

Well done "Hollywood" Howson.

Thanks Biggsy, I definately felt unlucky yesterday to miss by just 0.002 on making the semi but that is just the way it goes sometimes. It will be great motivation for training for the next 12 months though

It was great to see so many local athletes make the final yesterday and I think that shows the strength of the O35's here. Everyone raced brilliantly and deserved to be in the finals, I would have loved to see Miller there too but I am sure we will see him there again next year.

See you all on the track soon

Well done floater ,last in your heat last year and making the final this year with only 5m more.
Unfortunately for you ,you probably met those that finished on the dais in career best form.
Liked ,how you were giving out fliers for the Ballarat meeting as it is giving those that didnt know plenty of time to make arrangements.
One question ,though ,you seemed to be taking a lot of photos of the Bay Sheff setup, is this for personal gratification or can we expect something similar at Ballarat.Certainly makes for much interesting racing when the runners in circle events dont disappear over to the otherside of the oval.

Thanks Whispers...was nice to get back to Bay in one piece and to be competitive again...was certainly the oldest going around but I will be back for another tilt in 2014... congratulations to Mark Howson for an awesome effort into that gale...very well deserved... love catching up with all my SA buddies...thanks to all the many volunteers and officials who did a fantastic job... my photos are just for my personal use... just love taking in the whole atmosphere at Colley Reserve...see you all at Ballarat on February 8th and 9th at the picturesque Eastern Oval... cheers Floater..
