Last years was a fizzer and it wasnt for Marra opening up the purse strings it could have got embarrassing.
True, we need to try new things but they also need to be pre advertised so people are aware of whats going on especially the interstaters.A lot of people had made prior arrangements last year before they knew it was happening on the first night.
With the eveness (is there such a word ?) there would be the likelyhood of some pretty contested heats.
Can it be advertised in advance WHEN WHERE or IF its happening

The Bay Sheffield Calcutta is back on Day 2 of the Carnival, to be held at 11.55am at Colley Reserve near the bookmakers.

One of things that was highlighted last year with the small pool was how much ends up in the pool.

I would like to see 70% go into the pool, 30% back to the drawer.

And from the 70% of bidding money plus the ticket sales - we pay down to 3rd.

Of the total money left after paying the heat drawers,
70% to first, 20% to 2nd & 10% to 3rd.

Just adds another incentive to buy a heat.  Laughing

Stawell pays down to sixth, but we don't attract the same pool therefore, 3rd is as far as we could afford to go.

Good news that the Calcutta is back where everyone expects it, will never knock trying new things though.
Which brings me to the next thing, Great Idea Youngy and would make a better selling point to those bidding for heats.

Noticed last year that the Bookies only paid out on first and second in the final even if you had your bet before heats began. There defence was that there were only 6 runners. At Stawell Im pretty sure they pay out 1st 2nd and 3rd if you bet before heats begin. So be careful and check before you bet
