I clicked on the link to sponsors web site just in case that helps you to be seen to be sending traffic to them...In doing so I didnt recognise an obvious link to pro running...

Where did the sponsor come from? Is there a likn that I missed or have you got them some other way?

Great work by the Ballarat Athletic Club & thanks to Floater for the updates.

The number of sponsors Ballarat keeps attracting is a testament to the hard work & credibility of the Ballarat AC.

By the way mentioning the sponsors on Protrack at the moment is one way if getting very good exposure for them.

On Nov 25, we had 14,300 hits; 30 days later that has risen to over 29,300 - >15,000 hits more.

Averaging just over 500 hits per day.

Is there a provisional timetable available by any chance? I need to see if the events will mix with coaching commitments back in Melbourne.

Coming to Ballarat from SA to compete in the Veterans, my son also competes - 16yo but appears to be no junior events at all for him????

floater

Thanks Biggsy

Ballarat has a 120m Novice, 400m Sportzbiz Novice and a 400m Frontmarkers. Hopefully your son can compete in one of these. Cheers... Floater

Not sure but think Biggsy junior may have won under age sashes in the saal.
Would he still be able to run Novice races in the val.
The val rules for a novice are those that have not won a race.
Much different rules to saal.
Maybe check it out before you nominate Biggsy.

Thank you Whispers, for your reply, yes Josh had won 2 x Junior sashes over 70m and 200m - does this effect noms for Novice in Vic? I also saw somewhere advertised Junior Dash for Cash at the Ballarat meeting, however it doesn't appear on the VAL website under programme of events? Long way to go and expesnive if he cant be competitive. Can anyone help?

1. Is there junior events?
2. Can he nominate for novice?

Any guidance appreciated.

21 Re Junior running at Ballarat. on Sun Jan 05, 2014 7:53 pm

Judelfra

The Ballarat Gift meeting has more junior events than any other VAL pro meeting. The Victorian Junior Dash for cash caters for juniors aged from 5 years through to 15 years. Other events for juniors are the novice event and the Sportz Biz 400m with many junior athletes (16 - 19 yrs) entering the Gift, the 70m and the two 400m events. The club may consider holding a junior under 18 100m should there be sufficient demand.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the 2014 PPT Accounting Ballarat Gift!

Is the junior dash for cash handicapped and if so, by who? Also is the novice 120m still novice and u21 or is it just for novices?

Judelfra

The VAL Board will not allow Ballarat to hold a restricted U21 and/or novice race. It is against the current VAL rules. This is despite the club believing this is a logical pathway for junior runners. The club hopes logic will prevail and the rule will be changed next year as the VAL realise the need to focus on pathways to attract and keep junior athletes in athletics.

The Junior Dash for Cash is handicapped by the Ballarat Athletic Club in consultation with Ballarat Little Athletics. It is handicapped on written verified PB times. If verified PB's are not supplied the novice mark is given.

SANCHEZ

Any winners of junior races in VAL do not lose their novice status.

Judelfra

The Ballarat Athletic Club is also seeking clarification from the VAL Board as to when and how a junior runner can lose their novice status. There is a lot of confusion around this and many junior athletes don't understand the concept of novice and rightly so as it is yesterday's terminology!

SANCHEZ

You are no longer a novice if you win any final other than a junior race or a promotional event, such as the races we had at the trots at Melton.
If you entered and ran in a heat of the Sportszbiz 400m series , you can still compete in the remaining series races for the rest of the year should you break your novice status by winning one of the heats of the series or any other novice final.

Fast

ProTrack A Grader
ProTrack A Grader
That's where the confusion is in one breath you can win a junior race but in another if you win a round not even a the main final of the sportbiz U21 400 you lose novice status. Very confusing?!?

SANCHEZ

I can see where some people might be confused but you must remember the Sportsbiz series is a novice series not a junior series. If you win a round of the Sportzbiz series you win a sash and are not eligible for any other novice races apart from the 400 series

Fast

ProTrack A Grader
ProTrack A Grader
So has the sportsbiz 400 series changed to a novice and is no longer an under 21 series.
What about the junior 100m series is that a novice or under 21.
I think the VAL need some clear consistent path ways for junior rather than just holding random novice and restricted under age races. They should be the same at all Val calendar meetings, surely that would make handicapping easier as well.

Found on the VAL site under FAQ

Novice - This is for athletes who have never won a race. Once you win a Novice race, you are no longer eligible to compete in these races. You do not have Novice status if you have won a state, national or international title.
