Sydney University nearly sweeps the titles at NSW Relays

Written by Inside Athletics
Created on 18 November 2013

The second placed Sydney University men's 4x1500m team was all that prevented Australia's oldest athletics club taking out every open track event at the NSW Relay Championships over the weekend.

In an unparalleled display of prowess the students won the men's and women's 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m and Sprint Medley Relays, with the women also winning the 4x1500m.

Among the swag of medals were two NSW records for the women, with the 4x1500m relay team of Milly Clark, Kelly Young, Nat Archer and Jenny Blundell slashing 20 seconds off the record to run 18:03.97, while the sprint medley relay team of Liz Jenkins, Ella Nelson, Anneliese Rubie and Jenny Blundell improved the record set at the Australian University Games with a run of 3:50.38.

There were also quick sticks from the open men's 4x100m, with the quartet of Justin Merlino, Jin Jung, Nicholas Hough and Jarrod Geddes pumping out a 39.65 run in the heats and following that up with a 39.88 run in the final.

Two national records were set by Randwick Botany Harriers in the U16 4x800m and 4x1500m by the squad of Manon Wilson, Georgia Evans, Amy Harding-Delooze, Samantha King (1500m only) and Lily Harding-Delooze (800m only). Both records were 25 years old and now stand at 8:59.40 and 18:37.21, with the former faster than the winning time in the open race, and the latter good enough to have won silver.

A full write up of the meet is available from Athletics NSW.
