Thanks cj.

My first competition with the SAAL was at Playford, not far from the Holden plant where the BlueCar was made.

I was in awe of the presence of Nova Peris-Kneebone, possibly the final SAAL event for the olympic sprinter and hockey player who is now a Senator-elect.

And I was blown away by a friendly smile from a young woman who ran like the wind down the back straight of the 400m.

I am a big fan of Pirrenee and I am looking forward to seeing her run on Sunday at Flinders.

I was going through past Flinders results mainly to try and put them in a historical spreadsheet and I saw his result from 2007. The heat winner went on to run 2nd to Todd Bateman in the final.

If you look at the corresponding marks this year it sort of says something about the last six years..........I'm merely highlighting it because coincidentally the two backmarkers in 2013 happened to be in this 2007 heat. It takes a fair bit of success to go back 6/8m in a 200m and both those athletes have gone on to be state champions and big Gift performers.

Heat 2
2 1 Nitschke Michael 14 21.47
2 2 Long-Scafidi Wallace 13 21.86
2 3 James Robbie 12 22.21
2 4 Currie Euan 15 22.48

Nice personal dig youngy. Everyone knows you don't like him,
However comparing two sprinters to a middle distance athlete seems a bit unfair

Good athletes can go back in the marks and still be competitive. Maybe Youngy is having a dig but facts speak for themselves. Some people in this state find other ways to measure themselves which gives them a false sense of where they are at. Nitschke has changed distances since then so I guess we will never know how good he could have been over the GIFT distance.

TIPS
First thought would be for Sanderson-Milera to take out the 200m after his display in the 300 novice but i just think there are a few to many good runners around him. Giving the likes of Tohl and Richards a start will be tough. Also he is maybe to close to Wallace.

If he can do it, he's done well and definitely would have earned my respect as an athlete. If he takes this out he has to be a big chance come December although i know he said he was only interested in Stawell.

However front markers always seem to do well here as the tail wind helps them earlier. Looking at them I'm not sure which one will bob up, maybe Hancock?

Not quite "c judd", I think it is more the other way round.

Regardless I thought it was of some relevence given where Wallace & Rob in particular have gone with their running since then.

I don't want to get into any debates or tit 4 tats. But C JUDD you have got to be kidding me! Highlighting a Bay Open win as if it is something way beyond anything the other athletes have achieved?
I remind you - Rob James won a BURNIE GIFT . About 10k more than the Bay 800 is worth!
Burnie is one of THE BIG ONES. That's all I'm saying.

All I was doing was pointing out was that it was a pointless comment
Who cares what happened 5-6 years ago and was has been done since?
Robbie and Wallace are high quality athletes no doubt but why bother having a crack and Nitta

Reading back it does look like I was downgrading their achievements and that was not my intention at all! I was just asking the point of the original comment

In 2007 Wallace would have been 17? With obvious improvement left in him shown by his back to back mt gambier gifts
All I'm saying is i saw the post as useless and completely no disrespect to the other two
Have a good day and I hope the two back markers make the final for some quality viewing
Have a nice day Smile

I think what these results show is that with a solid program and hard work, results will follow in this sport. Unfortunately Nitta has had many coaches since then all telling him different things and constantly probably altering his program slightly. I remember when Nitta won the Novice at Mt Gambier and looked amazing. But that was when he was training for gifts. If he had continued he may have had an opportunity to win one of the big ones. But hindsight is a beautiful thing!

For the over 35's I think your pretty close to the money Stokesy with the exception of David W, I'd pop in David Palmer or Daniel Flesfadar instead, but its Biggs to lose although he has entered in the 400. Trudy Schrapel is the only front marker not doing the over 45's 400m so should be fresh for the run.
Also Stokesy I'd be happier with Sheena coming over for a run! Very Happy

I remind you - Rob James won a BURNIE GIFT . About 10k more than the Bay 800 is worth!
Burnie is one of THE BIG ONES. That's all I'm saying.

Trackstar,I thought you were a lot smarter than that ,absolute stupid comparison.
Youngys got a very valid point and you have wandered off on a comparison which has nothing to do with the handicaps in SA.
If you want to compare apples with oranges ask Gaetano Aiello DUAL Stawell winner whos two winning purses wouldnt have covered expenses ,what he would rather , a Burnie sash or TWO STAWELL sashes hanging on his wall.
Getting back to Youngys point its probably fair to say, the study that Nitta has had to do over the years to get his qualifications probably affected his advancement and potential.

Youngy sure knows how to ramp up interest in Protrack. Love it!  Wink

Like your tips Morphy. Haven't seen much of Saliu. Agree if he's in shape he wins. If not I like Wrighty. Runs well round a bend.

Glouftsis very unlucky to be pulled 4m considering her win at Port Adelaide was over 550m and her first for the league, still think shes almost the good thing on the program though the way she won at PA.

Sprint races are so tight and with no Santos times or current season form to go on take your pick
