Good move changing the 1600m open to a 1km open
May get a few more numbers running in it than the last couple of years

JUST a reminder - ENTRIES close today - Monday 16th September.

The SAAL is keen to get the list of entries to the handicappers this week, so they need to get all entries in ASAP.

Don't run the risk of being late! Get them in today.

By the way I believe there will be four handicappers this season with the juniors & veterans sprint events each having an independent handicapper.

I can confirm the veterans handicapper is from a squad with no veteran athletes so there can be no perceived conflict of interest. I'm pretty sure the same applies with the junior handicapper (squad with no juniors hence no potential conflicts of interest) but I'm not 100% sure. Great news for the sport with Leon Burckhardt now concentrating on open & women events.

Anyone have any early tips for this years Port Adelaide meet. Not long left to go. Hopefully it will be an exciting season. A lot of changes in the off season, which usually results in improvement for most.

Whispers

If history repeats itself ,those making the final of the 300m Novice usually feature well through out the season.Whispers suggests that the Bay Sheff winner may be amongst those doing well.
Expect the boundary umpires that are still running around to take that form into the early races .Think they went 1,2,3,&4 over the 1600m at PA last season.
Distance is reduced to 100m but still expect the umpies to show up.
Robinson,Fallon,Jelfs,Wilson,Royans,& Zacher all looked pretty fit last Sun at AMMI.

9 runners in the 1000m Open? Disappointing turn out.
Mostly McKinnon Parade athletes I see. Where are all the distance runners?

McKinnon went 1,2,3,4 in the 1600 last season ,can see them going the same again in the 1000m this season.
Wheres Adams and Tobys runners?
Perhaps it would also be a wise move to program the 550m womens and 550m under 20 as straight out finals

racingmania

Plenty of Didyk runners in the City-Bay. He only has one elite athlete. Most are good state level runners at best. No reason why they couldn't be out supporting the SAAL distance events.

National medals? What national medals are up for grabs in October?
That's right, none. Weak excuse not to be supporting the SAAL's distance events.

And please name another potential national medallist besides Jess Trengrove in Adams squad of 30.

Might need to grow up buddy and get in the real world.

Real races? Where pacemakers are often in the event with no intent to finish the race? And where 90% of the athletes in the event have no hope of winning.

Pro races off marks where backmarkers make up shit loads of ground to catch the frontmarker are some of the best & most real contests you can see.

South Australia has a great history of distance athletes, sad to see only a single figure number entered in the Port 1k.

No real medals to be won in late Sept/Oct that I know of.
Just ask those Pro runners who have earnt the boundary umpiring gigs at the AFL and SANFL grand finals if they enjoy what they are doing.
Im sure the pay cheque they are going to receive is worth what they do.

Whilst the number of entries for the 1000m event at Port Adelaide is below what we would have expected, it is only the first meeting.

1000m might be too short for those coming off a City-Bay prep.

Before we start to get too carried away, let's wait and see how the numbers for the next few meetings work out.

The Flinders 3200m will be the interesting one. Hopefully a healthy 'double figure' number will be going around.

By the way, entries haven't officially closed yet for Port Adelaide. It was only the preliminary list published last week.

Well done racingmania, trackstar and superman. Put your capes away, sound just as bad as doggies! Both side of the sport have thier pros and cons. You are only going to discourage adam and tobys runners from showing up if you speak like that. Port adelaide falls very early in the season and is always going to be tough to get a quality turn out.

Also JH, 6th SA resident home in both male and female collected $100 from the city bay, not far of a win in the 1000m! If your good enough, plenty of incentive to run city bay. A large sum of money raised by the city bay goes into prize pools at saal events, well worth getting around the city bay mate!
