RIDER & SCOTT TAKE TITLES AT LOCH LOMOND writes Shane Fenton

Scotland's top ranked 110m hurdler Allan Scott, East Kilbride raced to the SHGA Scottish 80 metres title in front of 15,000 spectators at the Loch Lomond Highland Games at Balloch.

Scott powered down the grass track at the Moss o' Balloch Park in 8.75 seconds to claim the £200 prize, Jamie Sinclair, Glasgow finished runner up with Dylan Ali, Hawick in 3rd.

Sinclair gained ample consolation with victory in the 90 metres Backmarkers Handicap which carried a first prize of £400, his winning time of 9.07 seconds was good enough to hold off the challenge of Hawick duo Dylan Ali and David Rae.

After two second places Ali finally got his head in front to win the 400 metres Handicap holding off the late challenge of Allan Scott with Willie Bates, Tullibody in 3rd.

The SHGA World Heavy Events Championship was won by the reigning Scottish champion Scott Rider from Dartford who won five of the eight events.
It was no surprise that, Rider who is currently 2nd in the British rankings for the shot putt won the opening 16lb and 22lb Ball events, he then went on to win the 28lb for distance, 22lb hammer and Caber.
Bruce Robb from Oakley in Fife landed the 56lb for distance and height double while Lorne Colthart, Blair Atholl was the victor in the 16lb hammer.

James Melville, Dumbarton was the man in form in the cycling events with wins in the 800m and 3200m handicaps with Greg Brown, Inchinnan the victor in the Deil tak the Hindmost and Steve Jackson, Glasgow in the 1600m handicap.
