MVP Club awaits Asafa Powell's fitness report

President of the MVP Track Club Bruce James says the camp is awaiting feedback from the doctor to know the extent of Asafa Powell’s injury.

The former 100-metre world record holder suffered another hamstring injury at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association All-Comers Meet on Saturday at the National Stadium.

He was competing in the men’s 100-metre dash, which was won by his training partner Julian Forte.

Powell confirmed at the weekend that it was the same injury that forced him to miss the Stawell Gift handicap race in Australia in March.

James says Powell will be carefully assessed because this is a World Championship year.

James says the process to know the full seriousness of the injury, picked up on Saturday, could take several days.

Powell was forced to miss the 2011 World Athletics Championship in Daegu with a groin injury.

The sprinter was forced to pull up in the final of the men’s 100-metre dash at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
