Adelaide Invitational to Return in 2011
ASA Website
16 December 2010

Athletics SA is pleased to announce that the popular Adelaide Invitational will return in 2011 on the brand new Santos Stadium track. In a boost for the event, Adelaide Airport Limited has confirmed that it will become the naming rights sponsor in 2011, with the series to be called the Adelaide Airport Invitational.

The series will feature two events in 2011 instead of the usual four due to the track upgrade. The first Adelaide Airport Invitational of 2011 will be held on Saturday the 5th of March commencing at 8pm. The competition is just two days after the Athletics Australia National Tour Meet in Melbourne and will mark the official opening of the new track.

The second Adelaide Airport Invitational will be held on Thursday the 7th of April at 8pm and will be a key lead up event for athletes competing at the Australian Open and AWD Championships in Melbourne from the 15th-17th of April 2011.

A program and timetable of events will be made available early in the new year.

ASA had already rescheduled the state relay championships for March 5th. (previously were to be held on December 18) The idea of having the relays as the first meet on the new track was a fantastic idea. Would have maximised the number of athletes who could compete on the track and relaunched the last 6 weeks of the season.

I can only assume that ASA will reschedule the state relay titles again for another date.
