1 Stawell 400m chances/Thoughts? on Thu Mar 28, 2013 12:09 pm

Would love to hear everyones thoughts on the 400m backmarkers this year, Jack dooley would have to be a big chance off a larger mark than his Opal 2nd placing (45.9sec) .

What's everyones thoughts on this event and potential finalists?.

Remember the 3m pull there from Bendigo mate. Dooley ran off 26m at bendigo and will be off 26m again at Stawell. So it would appear he was pulled 3m for breaking net time. 400 can be tricky to pick as many scratch due to progression in the gift, however if we assume all runners entered will race...

A potential final could look like:
S.Hargreaves
I.Douglas
M.Hocking
C.Dunbar
J.Collier
S.Woodrow
B.Lehmann
J.Dooley

But you could probably chuck another 5-10 names up there, few people had much of an idea of what was going to happen at Bendigo outside of picking the winner so it will be wide open. It will be a close one now Baird got his big win.

If I remember correctly the Stawell winner hasn't raced at the Opal the last few years.

Totally agreed Spectator, take out S.hargreaves C.Dunbar and possibly S.woodrow and it could be anyones race, Dooley Hocking Fabris and Collier would be expected to be up there unless they meet eachother in the heats.

Seems like there are a lot of names in the mix for this event, looking at the handicaps it could be anyones race and definitely one to watch. Credit goes to the handicappers on this one.

How about the front markers?

Noddy Angelakos is my pick if he runs it.

Front markers may depend on wind and conditions. Some of the front markers have mighty handicaps and will be hard to chance down. But I agree noddy is in good form

Parkinson is injured?

He just won his 200m heat in 20.9 That's 0.4s faster than his second place at VRTA, despite his Stawell run starting back 2 metres, and VRTA being run on a red track with a significantly shorter bend.

Seems a stretch to claim an injury would prevent him from being competitive in the 400.
