Maybe I have a chance to make the semis and even the final this year, but maybe not.

In January at Tea Tree Gully in the Retirement Strategies over45s 200m, both Eugene DeVizio and Ross Hill-Brown beat me, with all three of us off the same marks as at Pulteney.

Also Peter Biggs was close behind at TTG and has kept improving this year - and Biggsy is my tip for the win which will be his first SAAL sash.

Ross Hill-Brown (The Hyphenator) is in fine form and hungry for another sash

Plus there are a few youngsters who are running well.

Hopefully it will be an exciting race.

Hot Tips for the Final:
Trudy Schrapel
Daniel Flesfadar
Ron Axford
Peter Biggs
Ross Hill-Brown
David Wilczek
Eugene DeVizio
Lyn Peake

Stokesy.........usually by now ,you have a running tally of whos in the mix for over 35 and over 45 athlete of the year.
Just wonder if this weekends events will count or are the awards already made up.

Stokesy ...you are no chance on Sunday. If you werent fit enough to train tonight unless you were sneeking around in the shadows and I missed you ,you arent going to be at your best for the weekend.

none of these three made the final at Flinders ...

Salvador has 18m (=plus 2m) for Pulteney
Cheryl has the same mark
I am off 31m =plus 3m

Maybe Salvador is faster now, with some good results in longer races ...
Cheryl similarly has done well in longer races ...
I ran a lot better at TTG than at Flinders ...

But we all three still look a bit slow ... I will stick with my previous tips.

In regards to the season awards,
Have done a quick calculation ,although not as thorough as Stokesy.
Jurado sits on top in Over 35s with Jefferies,Devizio,S Turner and Wright either able to level up or beat him.Thiele and Johnson were a couple of other good performers that are within striking distance but arent in the nominations that I can see.
Over 45s is anyones, Can Cheryl run a big race this week and pinch it.

No Chance

Pretty good tipping Stokesy, got the minor placings..well done to Trudy on her first podium and Steve Jones on winning. Would that be Pete Biggs 1st podium?

Thanks No Chance.

Biggsy has scored one podium already - at Hectorville in the 120m over45s.

A pretty good effort for what I believe is his first season in the SAAL.

And Steve Jones ran a great race in the final, making a lot of ground over Biggsy in the final 20 metres. Well done Steve.

Hey No Chance.

My run was okay, not good, just okay.

The track looked better this year, but there were the usual couple of dips on the curve.

After a painful warm up routine I disappeared into the change room and applied about a gallon of the magic liniment (ingredients wintergreen, rosemary, peppermint and peppermint gum) which gave a me a few minutes of reduced pain.

I was off 31m in the black in heat 5 with Biggsy off 28m inside next to me in the green and Mark Howson ahead in the pink off 42m. Chasing us were Salvador Jurado off 18m in the blue and David Miller off 12m in the white.

We had a weird false start situation, with no second gun but Chief Steward Phil Daws waving us down and shouting to stop - I had run maybe 40m before I got the idea.

There were no penalties and we did it all again - my start was so so and Biggsy was past me before the straight.

I successfully chased Mark Howson but I was caught maybe 20 metres before the finish, with David Miller and Salvador Jurado passing me as I was passing Mark.

So my season was over.

Afterwards I hurt a lot, so I am looking forward to a thorough rest and recover before winter training begins.

Socially the day had a few memorable moments - early in the day Luke Hildyard introduced me to Steve Jones who went on to win the over35s 200m - I had the usual pleasant chats with Mick Watkins - over35er sneaked a pic of me and warned me that it was going to be used in something he was working on for ProTrack.

My season was personally disappointing results wise, with just one podium (third in the over45s 200m at Tea Tree Gully).

I was pleased that my Team Townley training partners had some successes with breakthrough wins for Alex Jefferies and Lyn Peake plus another sash for David Wilczek.

"There's always next year" ... I will be 60 next season, and maybe my age is catching up with me. But maybe not ... I still dream of getting it right and running faster than ever.

Hey Biggsy - thanks for the correction and congratulations to you and your son.

Best wishes.

Sorry to mess up your tips Stokesy but I was very happy to finally get a win. It is my first season back racing since the early 90's and one of my goals for the season was to grab myself a sash which is something I never managed to do in my younger years. I would have been happier if it had happened a little earlier in the season though. Peter and Trudy both ran great races and I was very proud to share my first podium with them.

I really need to thank my coach Luke Hillyard for my success on the weekend, he has worked miracles with me this season and has taught me to trust in the process of training because the results will come at the right moment. Also the other athletes at Coastal Districts have been a great source of support and inspiration this season and i think we are all looking forward to another big season of racing next year. It is safe to say that without Luke Buchanan's advice Sunday morning on how to effectively run a 200m race I wouldn't have been on the podium.

For me it is time to take a break to recover and set some new goals for next season. Hopefully I will be a little bit fitter, stronger and faster next season as long as I can manage to stay injury free. Thanks to everyone I have raced against this year, it has been a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing you all again next season.

Hi Steve

No apologies needed, it was a very impressive performance, well done.

When Luke introduced us before the race, I guess he was making sure I knew you were in his stable and that I knew who you were - you had a determined air and you were obviously well prepared to do the job.

Best wishes

Thanks Stokesy, I don't know if that was Luke's intention, I think the 3 of us were just all in the same place at the same time and he was doing the polite thing. I think I might have to think hard about running more 200's next year, Sunday was the first time I have ever run a 200m race

Hey Steve

All good - if that was your first 200m, then I have a good excuse for not tipping you, thanks for that.

You looked fast enough to do very well in the shorter races and strong enough that you could have run another 200m with a flying start ... so consider the 120m and the 300m and 400m as well I reckon.

How am I ever gonna get another sash? ... lots of improvement needed LOL.

best wishes
