Ben Wright flying the flag for S.A. in the Black Opal, interesting and maybe the message the Victorian Athletic need to hear, handicapping S.A. runners out of the competition is not the way to go in Open Athletics, hope that we can see SA boys and girls given a fair mark when competing in Victoria. Evidence of S.A. handicapper giving the Vics a good chance was seen at Camden with M. Hargreaves winning at the Camden 400m and Adam Coote running in the Loxton Gift Final recently, hope this sends the right message.

Glenn Ross' contingent has been more than competitive I think. I wouldn't mind seeing a few Vics who are never in it with the same lifts/credits. Don't think you can say that other states are 'unfairly' treated. Mara's post above good outline of the last month.

BMara, read GT's post again before going off on a silly rant.
GT was talking SA only.
Highlighting WA, Tas, NSW means stuff all to SA guys. Just makes it more obvious SA runners GET screwed in VIC.

Dear Morp does a fish know its wet , Do you really think that a handicapper sits down and decides that runners from a particular state are going to be handicapped out of every event.
At Ballarat with over 700 entries there were only 23 South Australian entries. You may argue that the south Australians don't come because of their handicaps but that practice only increases their problem.

Outlining the results of the past three major gifts is a hardly a silly rant.
The recent Ballarat Gift, the second biggest carnival in Victoria produced the following results.

70 mts Stubbs Queensland
under 20's Kirkman Victoria
Womens Gift Dobbyn Victoria
Open Gift Ross West Aust
120 vets Lemoto Tassy
300 vets John Hildith ( Scotland ), just kidding Victoria
400 back Nunn Victoria
400 front Norris ( everywhere, QLD i think)
Sportzbiz Dobbyn Victoria
800 front Davis Tassy
800 back Nolan Victoria
1600 Robinson South Aust
3200 Marantelli Victoria

13 events 700 plus entries
Vic 7
South 1
West 1
Tassy 2
NSW 0
Qld 2

I go to the Bay every year and it is always a great carnival but very few, if any, of the south Australians that make the Bay finals ever bother to race in Victoria in the following weeks.

Rather than rant I rely on facts and figures with a little history thrown in.

Morp,If you want to see me rant come to Etihad tonight and sit next to me.
