The Marion 300m has been run six times since 2007. Whilst it hasn't been a great guide for Camden, it has developed into an intriguing & exciting event. Below are the results of the last six finals. James Boden is the only athlete to break 34secs in a final (33.97) and he did it from the tightest mark of 7m. The fastest time by anyone over the 300m at Marion is Brad Schutz who ran 33.93secs in the first heat in 2011. (Not sure what happened to him in the final.) Backmarkers have a good history at Marion with the last two winners conceding big starts. With two athletes in good form handicapped from a single digit mark it is shaping up to be another quality race.

For the record, since 1997, (last 15 years) in 300m open events in the SAAL only three athletes have won a race from a single digit mark.

Duncan Tippins (6) - Reynella 2004.
Clay Watkins (6) - Whyalla 2009.
James Boden (7) - Marion 2011.

The Marion 300m has developed into a curse for Camden with no Marion finalist going on to win Camden. That's 47 Marion finalists in six years and not one has gone on to win Camden. Of the 47 only 9 (19.15%) have gone on to actually make the Camden Classic final. Of course many of them didn't enter Camden, but it is still a low number given it is probably the most obvious lead up race available on the SAAL calendar. Only one of the 47 Marion finalists has gone on to make the podium at Camden - Ben Wright who was 2nd to Wallace Long-Scafidi in the 2007 Camden final. No athlete has placed at both Marion and Camden with 5 Marion placegetters making the Camden final. The best of them was Stephan Thiel who was 2nd at Marion before running 4th at Camden in 2010 and Steve Landers who was 3rd at Marion & 4th at Camden in 2007.

Loxton 300m final.
Event 153 - 300m Open - Final:
Position Name Colour Mark Time
1 Jake Stangewitz White 21.00m 32.70
2 Kostya Khudoshin Green 22.00m 32.91
3 Jarrad Dartnall Yellow 22.00m 33.23
4 Bradley Letton 1 25.00m 33.59
5 Adrian Harris Red 20.00m 33.83
6 David Girolamo 2 33.00m 34.01
7 Nickolas Berry Pink 25.00m 34.50
8 Nicholas Giles Black 22.00m 34.67
9 David Palmer Blue 21.00m 34.97

Dartnall 33.23 off 22 m Loxton last year, and gets a 2 m lift for Marion to 24 m?

Worth noting that Palmer I think did the double in 2011 .Over 35 300m when he came from the back mark at Marion to give everyone a cold as he breezed by them before winning off a much more generous mark at Camden.

Actually I think Stoksey still has nightmares of Palmer flashing past.

I think the 300m will be won by a frontmarker running good time, Buchannans my tip.

Jarad Dartnall and Ben Wright should fight it out, Dartnall fast time at loxton and up2 m ,Wright 2nd at Whyalla in fast final.
oh sorry that was my Loxton preview. Wink
Forget those two!

BUuchanan big chance but BUbner's been going better now than last year and must be a chance. Bu's might fight it out, thrown in BUlabek.
